Starved Rock Lodge & Conference Center

We have been coming to Starved Rock for years but this is the 1st time we actually stayed at the lodge. It was great! The rooms have a cabin feel, comfortable bed and little sitting area to play games/ have meals. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. We came during very cold weather so the hot tub and saunas were a plus! Loved that there were hiking trails right outside the lodge. We had breakfast and dinner at the main dinning hall and both meals were great. We got to sit by the lit fire very romantic. The Starved rock ale 🍺 was delicious! Definitely will be returning.

My husband and I stayed for an extended weekend! We hiked trails, ate at the restaurant, enjoyed drinks at the bar, and cuddled in our room! What a great stay! We encountered amazing service at check in and check out. The staff in the bar made amazing drinks and appeased my husband with sports on the tv! The food and service were nothing short of wonderful! Our room was clean and ready when we arrived and cozy as expected for this type of resort! What a great getaway from the hustle and grind of city life! Will be visiting again In the summer!

This was our second stay at the lodge. The location is excellent and all the trails super fun to walk. The storks were by the dam which was a cool sight to see. We thought we'd try staying in a cabin this time since it was available and we stayed in the lodge last time. However, I didn't read well enough to know that each of the Sunset Lodges are basically 1 of 4 rooms sharing walls under a cabin roof. Unfortunately we could hear average volume conversations into the night, doors opening & closing that shook our walls, phone alarms and other noises from the other suites. Thank goodness we brought a sound machine and earplugs.The room was clean and the photos are accurate, but it seems further sound proofing could be done. I would not recommend it unless you have the a whole cabin to yourself/know your cabin-mates and don't mind being woken up by the other people around you. I was going to mention this to the staff upon checkout, but they didn't inquire about my stay. The restaurant's meals are well-priced, and the Starved Rock label wine was great. But our coleslaw was not fresh, ribs were average, and the local meat & cheese board lacked creativity. I realize they have to meet the needs of all types of people since they host events, but I would encourage the chefs to specialize in a few select cuisines and execute them really well. Overall, the room price for the lodge ambiance and on-site food is fine. We probably won't choose to stay overnight again.

Went to family thanksgiving at the lodge. Everything was wonderful! From the food, to the friendly attentive staff, to the perfect temperature in the pool! We enjoyed our stay and loved that the bar had the bears game on! What a great trip. Definitely recommend!!

I stayed here for one night getaway on Jan 23 2025 to Jan 24th 2025. The lodge is rustic and beautiful. It sits above the Illinois River on a bluff and beside a canyon. It's a beautiful area My room on the 3rd floor was clean and cozy with a nice view of the back of the property. I visited the main dining room for dinner on Thursday night. I enjoyed the pasta Primavera very much. And I had 2 chocolate martinis that were prepared to perfection. The server was pleasant and attentive. And the fireplace really added to the ambience of the evening. Afterward I enjoyed a cocktail in the grand hall while reading a book. Friday morning I was up early. At my request, the front desk lady asked maintenance to light the fire in the main hall which I really loved. I enjoyed a breakfast sandwich and cappuccino at the Cafe in the lobby. I also purchased some huge chocolate chip cookies that were delicious. I did not explore any trails as the weather was quite frigid. . I enjoyed my stay and hope to return for a longer stay next time.
