Stockade North Campground is a nice place to set up the camper and use as a central home base to explorer the many fantastic attributes of the Custer State Park, in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The lots vary as to size, all are gravel with moderate elevation to which you must adjust setting up the camper. Power to the site. Dog Friendly. Campground host was attentive and helpful. For more details refer to the S. Dak GF&P camping reservation site. Only $30/night to include electricity. The city of Custer is to the west on Hwy 16A about 5-6 miles. You can obtain gas, grocery, hospital and restaurants in this pleasant town. Easy access to drive to several nearby lakes. We stayed at this location for 2 nights early Oct 24. The fall leaves were turning colors and the scenery was fantastic. We would recommend the campground.

We stayed at Stockade Lake North in our truck tent on a site with no electric hookup. There was plenty of space at our site to feel private, despite the campground being almost completely occupied. We also had a picnic table and fire pit (the hosts told us firewood was available to purchase at the Custer State Park entrance). Our site was close to bathrooms, which were very clean. The showers were free and hot!! At night we could hear coyotes and owls. Deer, turkey and rabbits were also visible near the campsites. For our needs, this was a very wonderful campsite. The grounds themselves were beautiful, with some lovely trails down to/around the lake. The hosts were very helpful and welcoming. And the location is amazing for accessing Custer, Custer State Park and Black Hills National Forest. We did need to reserve spots over a month before staying. RV spots seemed to be in very high demand as well!

We had a very nice visit to this campground. We have a 30’ TT and need a good size site and don’t like to have to do a lot of leveling. We found a site with electric but none of the sites offer water or sewer hookups. Water was available across the loop from us so we filled up before getting onto the site. The camp hosts were great! The sites were nicely spaced out. We stayed five nights and bought the $20 weekly park pass that’s required that’s in addition to the campground site rates which were reasonable at $15/night. Biggest negative was no close dump facility it was free but about ten miles away. Easy trip into Custer and what a neat little town!

Beautiful sites, lots of shade, some sites have electric, some camper sites are just pull-offs on the road, but have large private space behind, tenting sites are excellent. Easy walk to the lake, but drive to the beach, about 1/2 mile walk off the end of the campground to historic stockade. Granite intrusions fun to scramble on. Lovely, peaceful area to spend the day or easy access to the park or Custer.
