We just got home recently from a great trip during the 4th of July, except for the blood suckers out there! One of us was eaten alive (30+ bites) even with the OFF spray on and in a bug screened canopy tent. The large black and whites were more aggressive, biting early morning and late evening and and the little ankle biters were there too! 🙃 Idyllwild is a great little mountain town to explore. Close to Lake Fulmor, too! The camp host guy is nice, as are his two cats who greeted us! There are no showers at this campground, but you can drive to town (10-15 minutes ) and go to the other state park to use. Need a coin to operate them that you get at that ranger station. Vault toliets you could smell here and there depends on wind. Hand stanizier on outside of them. Saw rangers cleaning a few times. Our site had a good amount of shade versus some did not have much when we explored. A few sites have power, which is nice! Very quite and peaceful. Other campers were respecting hours. No wood fires due to weather (heat wave) and fire danger, but it can vary since there are pits. Water spigots through out grounds. Says bears and rattlers but didn't see them. Some sites had bear cabinets ? But some did not.
Very well maintained campground. It is a primitive one so don’t expect flushable toilet or a shower. It is well maintained, has a nice hike around the campground. Off you venture around the area you will find plenty of great hikes with amazing views.
We stayed two nights and had a great time! We booked online and got site 29. It was very spacious and felt pretty secluded from the other sites. The site is down a little below the parking spot so you're not directly by the road. There were three pit toilets right across from the site but they were very clean and I could only smell it maybe once or twice. The water was a few sites down so pretty close. The campsite was completely booked when we got there and we could definitely hear people in the other sites and could tell some people at a site far from us were playing loud music around 9:45pm. There is a camp host in the morning but they leave in the afternoon. There are no showers but we were able to drive to the Idyllwild Campground and get shower tokens and use their showers (a little inconvenient but nice after a long hike).
The campground was lovely, there were plenty of trees to hang hammocks from and it was well kept. There were so many mosquitoes and fire ants, which was the only downside but I feel like is summers fault and not the campgrounds. They had water and simple toilets and my reservation was easy. Will come back! I went in July and it was hot during the day (we went into the town) and lovely and cool at night
Great campground, came up here early may midweek and found the campground literally to myself! Very friendly campground host who even helped me load wood in the trunk. No showers and the bathrooms are pot toilets, however these were the cleanest pit toilet bathrooms I've ever encountered, they weren't even stinky. If your a fisherman there are 2 lakes nearby but one of them is currently closed for renovations and the other turns out to be a private lake so if you insist on fishing you have to drive to Hemet lake. Loved the privacy of this campground however I'm sure weekends are a whole different beast. Some sites looked a little close to others.
