This is a small but very nice USFS campground with spacious sites and quiet surroundings. There is a little bit of road noise on the loop section next to the highway, but other than that it’s very quiet. Lots of birds in the area so bring your binoculars. Our camp host, Terry, was quite friendly and made sure we had everything we needed and kept the bathrooms clean and well stocked. We stayed just a few weeks after Hurricane Helene, so hiking trails had not yet been restored, but we will definitely be back to check those out next year. The fall colors were just past their peak in late October, but the drive up to Big Walker Lookout was still quite scenic and we even got to enjoy live music there on a Saturday afternoon. This was our first time camping at Stony Fork, but we will definitely be back.

Me and my son had a terrific time. We stayed for a week directly after Hurricane Helene hit. The trails were closed until October of '25, but the sites were clear and everything else was in excellent condition given the destruction the hurricane brought to the area. Nice and quiet setting, friendly staff, hot showers, and warm campfire. Couldn't ask for any better.

Been camping at Stoneyfork camp ground for 40 years. I started as a kid, raised my children there, and now trying to use it to teach my grandchildren about nature. The past 2 to 3 years I have seen this place go down hill tremendously!!!! Stayed there July 27 and made reservations ( which I don’t agree with) for September 12-14 for site 37. I was by there today and seen at least 5-6 sites that were closed due to issues, one of which is my reserved site(37). I ask one of the host and they said they would not cancel your reservation, that arrangements would be made so you would have a site if not repaired by then. Very disappointed in the maintenance side of this government owned camp ground. This is a hidden treasure and very enjoyable place. Always lots of super nice people camping there, some of which I have camped with for many years. Up grades and fixes, I know would be greatly appreciated.

Quiet, well-maintained US Forest Service campground convenient to I-77 north of Wytheville, VA. A diversity of site services available on around 50 sites, including a dump station.

This was my first stay at Stony Fork Campground. It is nestled in the Washington Jefferson National Forest just a few miles from I-77 at Wytheville, VA. It was absolutely beautiful. The Camp Host, Roger, was extremely friendly and exceptionally helpful. He stopped by daily to visit and chat. He gave us a history of the campground. I'm definitely going again.
