Reviews and photos were way off. Lots of dirt, old playground, sites hard to get in and out of. Seasonal right next to us with 3 large dogs and six kids. Owner was nice. So much potential. Cut down some trees. Clean up.
At first I was pretty excited to go camping here with my family and friends but apon arriving I realized the whole place was covered and I mean covers in trees and dirt/gravel the playground was very trashy with rusted metal structures just sitting there and I all just seemed like a safety hazard the lady that runs the place came out and yelled at all the kids that were still on the playground at 10pm telling them it’s there bedtime and that she doesn’t want to listen to their crap whatever that means. And while me and my friends were walking around she came running after us with a flashlight so we had to hide in the bathroom tell she went away on another note the cabin was very nice and cozy and it was fun to have fires out by the pit
Overall this campground is ok-good. We had a cabin by the pond that claimed it had fish. The pond was covered in green algae. My kids did try fishing one time. It didn’t last long. The kids brought bikes to ride. The road to our cabin is too steep to ride bike on and everything is gravel, which can cause easy falls on steep roads. They had a lot of fun with the yard games! We took advantage of the tube rental and went down the Stony creek to Lake Michigan. The Bathrooms are clean, only thing….don’t take a shower or sit too long on the toilet….the timed lights turn off and u will be showering or using the the toilet in the dark😬. I picked this campground bc it was near Lewis Farms, which was our main destination. It is a quiet campground. I was hoping with the location my boys could ride their bikes to fish, swim, and have a good time. There isn’t much good fishing or swimming unless u go by vehicle to where Stony Creek meets Lake Michigan (swimming). They did try fishing at the park across the road but It’s not that user friendly. My kids had fun on the playground, they made up their own games. It consists of older toys. They have a volleyball net, tether ball, swings, tires, a fort like structure, and an old style twirl toy, like a Merry go round. The playground reminded me of the toys I grew up with 😁. The owners are very nice and easy to talk to.
Love this campground . We have been here two separate years 2022, and this year 2024. Our three boys have a lot of fun at the park and they have bikes the kids can rent and ride too. We plan to have another camping trip later this summer . They have clean bathroom and showers.
Going to give my honest opinion here. Take it or leave it. This campground was not for us and we won't be back. I had high hopes with the reviews of this little gem of a campground but it turned out just awful. I will say the host was very nice, but I think they must rely on other family members or something to take care of the place. Problem #1: Trees. If you have a larger RV, it is very difficult to get into some of the spots. I feel like if they came in during the off season and cut down many of trees in the RV sites, it would be a lot better. Problem #2: The "high speed wifi". The router for the wifi we discovered was on top of the bath house. Our campsite was no more than 100 ft from the router and the signal drops from 50 mbps to 5 mbps in that distance. I would include a screenshot of the speedtest, but the website wouldn't load... So unless you are sitting in the "Common area", the wifi is useless. And when it rains for several days and you have to keep to kids entertained without the internet, good luck. Problem #3: The pond for fishing. As of yesterday, it is completely covered in duckweed without any sort of fountain running. So it is a mosquito haven instead of a stony haven. Problem #4: The owners must have their kids help at the park with cleaning and mowing etc. The bathrooms were definitely cleaned. But the grass was long and in some areas overgrowing some things. About midweek, a man got on a riding lawnmower and just mowed everything as fast as he could it seems. Now I understand people are busy and he problem has a regular job and is helping out, but he was just kicking up dust and throwing grass into everyone's camp sites. Problem #5: Cell phone reception. I use the T-mobile network and my parents used a Tracfone which uses either Att, T-mobile or Verizon. None of us had cell phone reception. So we had to rely on the wifi for calls and as noted in Problem #2, that was unreliable. Not a problem, but a concern. The kids park area is very dated. There is some odd play structures there that seem like they are just hazards, like this tiered metal cactus looking thing that spins. While not the hosts problem, for it to be advertised as a "family establishment", my young kids learned some swear words from the teens that were there and many people were smoking pot. We left two days early for a multitude of reasons. We feel like if a little more work was put into this place, it could be good, but they appear to be putting their money into building new cabins which we heard them cutting wood until 10 pm.
