Just not quite the five stars we were expecting. This resort has a ton of potential. I'll start with the good: Roomy sites, lovely facilities (new washers, bathhouses looked nice), clubhouse was nice, covered Cornhole, large playground. There is a restaurant onsite (we didn't eat there) but it's a nice option. We had a ton of rain, everything drained and dried well! If ever you've been at a muddy campground, you know why this matters. The trails to the state park are amazing. You can bike right to the beach and can bike for a really long time, 10+ miles really lovely. Now for the rest: The three pools are lovely, but questionably heated. The larger family pool was by far the warmest, but a solid 15 minute walk from our camper. The two closer pools ranged between icy and frigid. The hot tub was broken and had been for quite some time...the heated pools and hot tub were the #1 reason we booked this resort for December..knowing the weather would be cool. I didn't appreciate that the pool near the restaurant is labeled as not being allowed to bring outside food or drink in, whereas the others you can. We're camping. We have our own stuff...we shouldn't have to buy yours to sit at that particular pool...which is the warm one. Second, the cable is "eternally out" according to a neighbor. They had been there for a month and didn't have cable, despite it being advertised. I guess maybe part of the park it works?? But not all. I called the front desk to ask about the cable (thinking maybe it needed to be turned on at our post or something)...the woman on the phone acted as though she couldn't hear me...then laughed and said just kidding, I've had several of these calls today. I understand she has a rough job because this resort isn't in the shape it's advertised to be in. And while I didn't mind her sense of humor, she acted genuinely surprised that the cable was not working and sent the maintenance guy over to tell us it didn't work...just tell me it doesn't work...why send this guy to tell me it's an ongoing problem. Generally there was one woman at the front that seemed tired of people asking questions. I had asked if there were nets for the pickleball court on the campground that we were in (by the clubhouse)...she snapped an answer saying it's out of her contro and that they are waiting to resurface...which is fine, as the farther courts were open (again a 15 min walk)...but there was no need to snap at me, as I had simply asked a question. Overall, I'd maybe give this place another try, but would probably opt for the state park since it has similar amenities and costs a lot less.
Great unplanned trip here. Our camping trip was cut short in Destin after we decided to leave because of Hurricane Helene. When we arrived at Sun Outdoors, we were greeted by super nice front desk staff. After checking in and getting to our site, we were pleasantly surprised by how nice the park looked (other than no shade). Our first day was spent at the pool and hot tub where we met Danny, the GM. He was so kind and was telling us all about the park. We ate at the restaurant which was great! We rented bikes and rode through the state park. All of the staff that we encountered were so kind and willing to help. We will be back!
Well so we have been coming here for 3 years. We stay from 2 to 3 months at a time. They just keep improving every year. Danny and his staff do their best to make sure your stay as pleasant as possible. You know you cant please all the people all the time but they sure do give it there all. So they have this clubhouse in the back of the park. The restaurant is a solid 10 Prime Rib on wed and fish and chips on Thursday. Im a foodie. All i can say is stop in and try it even if you’re not camping here. I wish i could have posted pictures. Anyway just give them a shot you wont be disappointed. Danny and staff thank you again for being so accommodating.
Fantastic place to vacation! Very kid friendly. Everyone who works there is very kind. The facilities are very clean and well taken care of. The grounds are well groomed. RV pads are concreted and level. Plenty of room for setting up. Every campsite has outdoor seating and a fire pit. You do have to purchase their propane to run the fire pit but it does come with a bottle. You can purchase the propane at the front desk as well as ice. There are 3 pools. We only went to the family pool with the splash pad and it was awesome. It was always very clean and no debris in it. The water is heated so in the evening and in the winter it is comfortable. You cannot bring any outside food or drink to the pool. They do enforce this rule. So that is the one draw back. There is a bar, general store, and an arcade at the clubhouse. There is a playground for older children, pickle ball courts, basketball courts, and corn hole courts at the clubhouse as well. Again everything is very maintained and well kept. Another few draw backs are you are limited to only two vehicles per site and you can only have a propane grill. No charcoal or wood pellets are allowed. They do have trees planted but they are small so there is limited shade. Definitely need two ac units in your camper. Those really are the only negative things I have to say. Food at the restaurant is very good. We ordered pizza and the pizza was pretty good size and was delicious. They also have ice cream for the kiddos. You can rent e-bikes and golf carts as well. We will definitely be back in the future. Very happy with how our vacation turned out. Thank you for the good time. 10/10 recommend.
Sun Outdoors is one huge rv campground / RV Resort with 500 manacured sites. All sites are large with a 20 foot wide pad and about 25 feet of lawn to your neighbors pad. You also have a round patio area coming off your pad. Every site has four Adirondack chairs, a propane firepit and a picnic table. All sites are full hookups, including 50 amp. All streets are wide and paved. There are lots of amenities for all ages. The new section in the back is connected to 28 miles of paved bike trails within Gulf Shores State Park. The staff is both friendly and helpful. It's just a great spot for family fun within a 15-minute drive of the beach.
