Sun Retreats Gwynn's Island presents a blend of positive and negative experiences, primarily centered around management interactions and staff performance. According to customer reviews, the park is known for its clean facilities, including the bathhouse, which is consistently praised for its cleanliness and the pleasant demeanor of the cleaning staff. The maintenance staff, particularly John and Craig, receive high accolades for their hard work and dedication, going above and beyond to ensure camper satisfaction. Kim, who works in the office, is also commended for her friendly and helpful nature, particularly when providing information about Gwynn's Island. The park's response during tropical storm Ophelia was highly appreciated, with the new manager and staff being responsive and helpful in addressing campers' concerns about potential flooding. However, there are significant concerns regarding the office's approach to visitors. One reviewer reported being labeled "riff raff" for driving through the park without first stopping at the office for permission. The park has reportedly stopped renting cottages to "keep riff raff out," indicating a selective approach to guests. This has created a negative perception of the office vibe among some visitors. Despite these management concerns, the park is described as having a strong community feel, with many campers expressing their satisfaction with being part of the community and looking forward to returning. Overall, Sun Retreats Gwynn's Island offers clean facilities and a dedicated staff, but potential visitors should be aware of the reported management issues.

Here are some key features and considerations:

  • Clean Facilities: Clean bathhouse and well-maintained grounds.
  • Friendly Staff: Maintenance and office staff are highly praised.

Recently rode thru to have a looksie..then as we were leaving, stopped in the office for some info and whatever you do, stop in to the office before you ride through or the office lady will call you "riff raff". Yep, after 10 minute ride thru, I was reprimanded for not stopping first. They want to make sure to keep "riff raff" out. They no longer rent any cottages out to keep "riff raff"out. Not liking the office vibe.

This is the end of our first year here and we couldn't be more pleased. We recently had tropical storm Ophelia come through and we were concerned about our camper flooding. Living 1.5 hours away means it isnt always easy getting here. The new manager and current staff were amazing and very responsive when asking for help and looking out for us and other campers. Aside from that, I can't say enough about John and Craig who work maintenance. They work hard, rain or shine, sick or healthy, and go above and beyond anyone's expectations to make sure everyone is happy and comfortable. Kim, who works in the office is such a pleasure to talk to. She's always ready to greet campers and help them out, especially if you want info about Gwynn's Island. The campground is clean, the bath house is clean and the lady who cleans is always pleasant and smiling. I'm so glad to be a part of this community and look forward to another summer. Thank you for all you do!

This was our second trip here this year and absolutely loved our waterfront site, D01. We stayed first week of May and week of September 11th. Beautiful views and staff very friendly. Women's bath house was out of commission but allotted hours for use of men's side. We wanted to make this a yearly trip but sad to hear they may not be open to transients and going private as of next. Very disappointing as this was one of our favorite spots this year and were looking forward to coming back next year.

Love this place! The staff is wonderful, the campers are wonderful, and the resort is absolutely beautiful! Kudos to John, who has gone above and beyond on several occasions for us, when we have needed help or have been in a bind! Mike who runs the show, is so kind and helpful, and can be seen everywhere throughout the resort and always there when needed!

We ended up at Gwynn’s Island after a storm took out power at New Point (both are managed by they same people). Thanks to them, the transfer to a different campground was seamless. All of the staff are so kind and helpful. The resort is well maintained and very peaceful. The playground is in great condition and is situated near a beautiful view to enjoy while children play. They were having a mermaid/pirate party this weekend and our kids enjoyed facepainting, balloon animals and a magic show (all included in our stay!). Awesome fishing pier and beach! Definitely a place for all ages to enjoy. Thanks for a great weekend.
