Sunshine Bar Campground Introduce

Welcome to Sunshine Bar Campground, a hidden gem located along Elk River Road in the picturesque town of Port Orford, Oregon. This campground offers a unique blend of natural beauty and rustic charm, making it an ideal destination for campers and nature enthusiasts seeking a tranquil escape.

Surrounded by dense forests and the soothing sounds of the Elk River, Sunshine Bar Campground provides a perfect setting for those looking to reconnect with nature. The campground features basic amenities to ensure a comfortable stay, including spacious campsites suitable for tents and RVs. While the area is known for its rugged beauty, visitors should be prepared for a more primitive camping experience, as the surrounding forest service roads can be challenging to navigate.

One of the standout features of Sunshine Bar Campground is its secluded location, which offers a true sense of wilderness. However, this also means that visitors should come prepared for potential obstacles such as fallen trees and uneven terrain. The campground is a haven for those who enjoy off-the-beaten-path adventures, with plenty of opportunities for exploring the surrounding woods and enjoying the serenity of the outdoors.

While the campground itself is relatively basic, its charm lies in its simplicity and the natural beauty that surrounds it. Visitors can expect to encounter an abundance of wildlife, from birds to deer, and should be mindful of the local flora, including poison oak. The area is also home to a variety of insects, so bringing bug repellent is highly recommended.

For those seeking a more developed experience, it's worth noting that Sunshine Bar Campground does not offer extensive amenities or marked hiking trails. However, for the adventurous at heart, this is part of the appeal. The campground is perfect for those who enjoy creating their own paths and exploring the wilderness at their own pace.

Customer feedback highlights the unique charm of Sunshine Bar Campground, with many visitors appreciating its secluded location and natural surroundings. One reviewer noted, "The road out here was narrow and challenging, but the campsite itself was a peaceful retreat." Another mentioned, "Lots of surrounding woods, but no real developed hiking trails. Without a trail, you are likely to get poison oak." Despite these challenges, many visitors find the experience rewarding, with one stating, "Might recommend in different circumstances."

If you're looking for a camping experience that takes you off the grid and into the heart of nature, Sunshine Bar Campground is the perfect choice. Whether you're pitching a tent or parking your RV, you'll find a welcoming atmosphere and the chance to truly disconnect from the modern world. The road out here was narrow, sunken, many MANY fallen trees obstructing one lane and a few partially cleared land slides. Campsite itself was home to shady folk. Might recommend in different circumstances.

Lots of bugs and unleashed dogs. The forest service road on the way in is not maintained and is in bad shape in several spots. Lots of surrounding woods, but no real developed hiking trails. Without a trail, you are likely to get poison oak.

Worst experience ever. First, the trek inland from 101 is about an hour. The road is very hazardous with falling rocks and parts of the road that has fallen into the river. Most of the road is gravel. Once we got to the site, we were all eaten alive by swarms of mosquitoes. When we were sitting around the campfire at night, hundreds of daddy long leg spiders appeared out of no where and kept climbing on our chairs and us. We had to call it a night early. There were also several homeless people camped out along the river and in the sites. Keep in mind that this is also a very primitive campground with no potable water and vault toilets. There are also only around 7 campsites so you will be lucky to find one in the summer. The only good thing is the river but it was freezing cold so we weren't able to swim for long.

Don’t spend any time here unless you enjoy being bitten by mosquitos! I was so excited for warm weather, a beautiful river and free camping just to be eaten alive by those pesky bugs! Worst experience of my entire camping ventures.

Beautiful. Great spots. Very clean. Only left because we ran out of smokes and had a medical issue.

FREE campsite with plenty of room for our 19’ Airstream and our friends Teardrop (including both our trucks) in one of the pull-through spots. Some annoying mosquitoes in the morning & evening when we were there in early August (one star off for that). Easy access to Elk River. Did an amazing river hike (waist high max) along shoreline up to a huge fallen tree bridge. Fire rings at each site & clean vault bathrooms near the entrance. There are 5 first come, first served campsites here. 4 are equipped for trailers/RVs, and one is a walk-in campsite right on the river. Max stay is 14 days. Part of the incredible network of Oregon state parks.
