It's expensive, but other than that it's an outstanding state park campground! They charge $20 per person per night, instead of charging per site like most campgrounds. However, it has a beautiful location with a sandy beach on the Saco River and the sites are all plenty large and well spaced apart from each other. There are 5 clean outhouses for the 20 site campground and there is potable water available in 2 different locations. The camp store has all of the expected basic products and firewood is $5 per bundle. We stayed here the Friday night before the Fryeburg Fair, and we were surprised to be one of only three groups in the entire campground! It was a very pleasant place to stay, and I feel that it justified the somewhat higher price for a shore stay.
We just paid to park and Tube Down River from Swan Falls Dam to Canal Bridge. It’s a relaxing Trip with lots of Sandbars to Picnic on. We brought Our own $4 Tubes from Walmart and Mardens. Beautiful Views. Great way to get cool on a hot Summer Day. You can Canoe or Kayak from there too.
I absolutely love this campground not only is a very centrally located but there is very great officers that patrol the land and make sure all the bears and bobcats stay away on top of that there is a great package store right around the corner for anybody that wants to relax for the night. Just an FYI there is only one outhouse so I would highly recommend bringing commodes or buckets.
Absolute worst people I have ever encountered. Dishonest; threatening; and fleece every cent they can. Went to river and were told it's too dangerous. There were no beaches; no where to camp. EVERY WORD A LIE. tricked us into paying for campground then at end of trip stole $20 per car saying we would be reimbursed because we had a camp site. Went to office it was closed. Old man just took the money and ran. Charged another person a 100 dollar "barge deposit" then close the office and no answer when it says they are open until 7pm. How can they close on a Saturday afternoon the busiest day of the week and most amount of people liability on campground. There needs to be leadership changes here to fix these issues.
We loved it here. So quiet and peaceful , the owner Mike was great treated us like family I would recommend this place to anyone. Safe for kids clean well taken care of land. The spots are separate and your not on top of each other you get Allot more privacy then most other camp grounds. Great prices $. You have access to the saco river a one minute walk from any camp site and it's right near the fairgrounds. We loved this peaceful trip and can't wait to go back again.
