We were heading to Hungry Mother State Park from Newport News VA for a week, and didn't want to travel 500 miles, so we decided to stop at Swedish Lilac Campground which was approximately 1/2 way. We stayed for 2 nights at site 4. Very level and sunny for a cooler early fall day. Bathhouse was nice. 2 showers, and toilet stalls. Water was hot and bathhouse was very clean. So .. on the way back from HMSP we stopped for a night at site 15. This is our first Private owned campground we've stayed at since we've been traveling the county for over 5 years. I recommend camping at this campground if you're around that area. There's a lot of hiking and biking trails but you have to drive a few miles to them. Saint Mary's wilderness and Crabtree Falls is close as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway.

You’re just sleeping on someone’s land basically, but the owners are very friendly and helpful. Thankful for the restrooms and toilets, and there was warm water. They were kind enough to chop firewood for us. It’s right next to a TRAIN TRACK so that’s the only bummer part, as it is LOUD and a train came through every night around 1AM. Woke our 24 month old up and scared her every time. But other than that it’s very quiet and quaint. There were only 3-4 people staying there when we were there end of October. Definitely gets cold at night, but has electrical hookups. Would def recommend and would return if ever in the area again. Loved seeing all the fall colors on our drive there!

Convenient to get to off the Interstate, but several miles away from that traffic. Woods and River will be your scenery. Lots of open sky too! Nice family run campground. Host provided WI-FI as there is no cell service.

Dog friendly! New owners fixing up the place. Great comms and they are extremely helpful. I made the mistake selecting the campsite because we were over 34’. Yet, they were able to accommodate and we had no issues finding the place. Quiet, woodsy, and plenty of nature. The restroom and showered were clean.

Nice place to camp. Dog friendly, shady areas. Clean bathrooms and river access for swimming and fishing. All the sites were well kept with picnic tables and grills. The owners were attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Had a problem hooking up to the eclectic and it was fixed immediately. They also had great wifi which was great bc I had a hard time picking up a clear radio station so we just streamed it online instead. Overall great place to stay. Will definitely be back in the fall to enjoy ourselves again.

Lovely camp ground! The owners are very friendly and the location is beautiful. My dogs loved staying here. They also have electrical outlets so I was able to charge my Tesla at my camp site. 100% recommend everyone to give this new camp ground a chance!
