Was full when we went, hunting season, apparently... Found a nice spot just up the road. While area is quiet and gorgeous, can't go wrong. Plan on bears, though...didn't see any, but saw signs of them.
This campground is located at the eastern end of Turkey Creek in the Chiricahua Mountains of eastern Cochise County Arizona. It was a quiet and peaceful drive up the canyon to roads end with several trails available for hiking enthusiasts. The creek was running a clear stream of water, which surprised me for this late in the season, and the surrounding area was beautiful.
Off a primitive road, so less traffic than other areas, well kept ground, nice fire rings, and a beautiful little creek.
SCORPIONS/Rattlesnake issues- nobody mentions scorpions are all over this campground. Passed a 6ft Rattler on the road in. I was stung twice, kids stung, wife stung. We have lived in the desert our whole life and understand that’s the environment however we’ve camped many a place and never had an issue like here. Sorry but I don’t recommend.
It's a very small campground. There are only 7 sites. No water but clean pit toilets. The best time to go is Monday through Thursday. By Friday afternoon it's full. The unpaved road is not for the weak of heart or RVs. A truck, or other vehicle, with a high ground clearance is your best bet. But, be ready to enjoy the quiet and scenery.
We spent six days here in early April 2025. Nice quiet campground ( except when the turkeys come through early in the morning!). Clean and well stocked vault toilet. $15 per night and $7.50 if you have the senior pass.
Beautiful place, we were able to make it with our Toyota Corolla, just have to go slow.
