I absolutely love the tailwaters. Plenty of room to fish. Always catch fish here and generally have a game warden present most times when I have gone fishing....which I absolutely love! The game warden in the area is a really nice guy and is quite helpful. Keep up the good work, sir!
A nice Corp campground along the Barren River. Plenty of spots for people fishing. Located below the Barren River dam features camping, picnic tables, a nature trail and a walk along the outflow of the dam for fishing. The road is paved with gravel camp sites. The area was still in their winter season when I visited without water or electricity at the campsites. Water was available at a spigot close by.
I don't see any good reason to have electricity turned off!!!! I camped at this site because it is cold and I have a heater. Electric heater!!! I used the small electric heater in Jacksonville in DECEMBER 2023. IT WAS A LIFE SAVER IN MY TENT!! I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR POWER STATIONS OR GENERATORS!!! I GOT WHAT WAS EQUAL TO A PRIMITIVE SITE EXCEPT THERE IS OCCASIONAL LIGHTNING ON A FEW POLES. No professional check-in. The Office and Host has water and electricity but no one else!!!! I will give 1 star because of the campground is in a Rural area and better than the streets as far as safety but only 1 star. I worked hard and long hours for my camping gear and heater and having to run gas while staying in my car with the heat on is not right!!!! A very long and cold 9 days booked!!!!
Let me preface this by saying I am a seasoned rustic camper and do not usually leave reviews for places I visit. I booked a rustic campsite in this campground due to it being cheaper than most surrounding campgrounds and listing no water/power hookups at sites. That is the extent of the warning I received. I was arriving after hours and after calling I received a nice response from the host that I shouldn’t worry and to check in the next morning. I was again advised the sites had power/water turned off for the off season which I noticed on the website. If i recall the host said ‘you know there’s no power and water hookups right?’ which i had noticed on the site. I am a rustic tent camper and not easily deterred by a lack of amenities. My biggest issue with this campground was that it has no bathrooms with running water of any kind during the off season. I did not think to ask if the bathrooms and showers were closed but I suppose i should have known to ask. There are two pit bathrooms accessible on either end of the property. The location is very remote and there are not shower facilities to use nearby. When I finally ran into the host the next day it was an older woman that confirmed the bathrooms and showers were closed for the season. I wish I had known this when booking because the site only said each power/water hookup for the sites was off, which I don’t need because i’m tent camping. When I asked about a nearby shower she nicely let me know across the street there is a public boat launch with bathrooms and hot water. There were modern bathrooms but no hot water hooked up, I checked under the sink. The first night was quiet. the second night there was a camper running their generator the entire night and morning until the time I left. The sites are not wooded and in plain view / broad daylight of the fishermen visiting throughout the day so i locked up/put everything away before leaving. I would rate this campground 3/5 for my individual experience. I am sure experience will vary, and improve if you are using a camper. This is definitely a camper park. I would not recommend it for tent camping. The hosts seemed nice enough but seem to hardly involve themselves. Could be 5 stars for you if you want a quiet place to park and sleep and be left alone. I really wanted a shower so we cut our trip a night short and drove home. I hope this review can be helpful to you.
This is a nice, quiet and clean campground. It is small but still has swingsets for the kids. The bathrooms were clean, but one of the sinks in the men's room was not working. There is a separate shower room (one for each gender) with just one shower, it is not small or cramped. The tent sites all seem to have a slight slope to them, it was hard for us to find enough flat ground to pitch our tents on one site. They all are pretty small sites. They are next to the river which was scenic but it was difficult to get down to the water at our site for fishing. The site we had (site 16) was electric, and it had two electric outlets. Be sure to bring a long extension cord to reach your tent. There was a water spigot on our site too which made it easy to clean things (boots, dishes, etc), I think most of the sites have water spigots. The site had plenty of space to park two cars. The campground host was very friendly and made regular trips around the campground. Firewood had to be bought at the nearby store, but small sticks were easy to find. The nearby beach was small but easy to get to, lots of parking, and had red sand. The water was warm and not crowded for our August trip. The kids had a blast there. The sand wasn't deep, maybe a foot at the most. Overall we liked our stay there.
