Gorgeous spot. Clean, quiet, well maintained spit. The trail system surrounding the campgrounds is amazing. We loved every minute of our stay even though the air quality was poor due to fires. We will definitely be back. The bear boxes ( more like cabinets) were very cool and convenient. We'd never seen anything like them and we feel every park should have them.
This campground is located at the top of Mt. Madonna county park in a redwood forest. The scenery was beautiful, but be prepared for moisture. When I was there the fog was so thick everything was wet and dripping water. My gear got wet on the way in and sitting outside with a fire was not an option. The place was busy with most people tent camping. The campsite I had was large but level ground for my tent was hard to find. There was no bear box but there was a good storage cabinet lots of hiking in the Park and close to wineries in the Santa Clara Valley.
We stayed at campsite 411 in late June. In general it was great experience! It’s close to bay area, and the campsites are well-maintained. Every site comes with picnic table and fire pit, and the redwoods surrounding the campsite are shady. Restroom with flush toilets is nearby. In addition, 411 is not too close to neighboring sites so there is decent privacy. The trail system around tan oak is great. We took a walk after dinner and it was just awesome and not crowded at all. One minor cons would be there were many mosquitoes. Not sure if they only show up in summer. We will definitely be back again.
Beautiful place to camp during the off season. I still give it five stars but I wouldn't visit during the summer I image it very crowded. My little buddy norm the gnome loved it.
One of my favorite country parks to can camp at. Clean facilities, great hiking, and I love the archery range. Always a good time.
