For those interested in wildlife, Tatanka Campground is a haven. Keyhole State Park is renowned for its diverse wildlife, making it an excellent spot for birdwatching, with numerous bird species to observe. You might also encounter antelopes, turkeys, deer, and other local fauna, enhancing the natural experience. The calm waters of Keyhole Reservoir are home to a variety of fish, including walleye, crappie, perch, smallmouth bass, and northern pike, making it a popular spot for fishing enthusiasts. Whether you prefer ice fishing in the colder months, boat fishing, or shore fishing, the reservoir offers ample opportunities. Always remember to have a valid Wyoming fishing license and be aware of current regulations.

Tatanka Campground offers a variety of services and amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. It is one of the ten campgrounds within Keyhole State Park, and notably, it is the only one that provides water and electric hookups, making it particularly appealing for RV and trailer campers. A total of 47 campsites are available, including four cabins, catering to diverse preferences. Of these, 36 sites can accommodate RVs and trailers ranging from 40 to 75 feet in length, with 29 sites offering electric and water hookups. Each campsite typically includes a picnic table and a fire ring, perfect for gathering around the fire under the evening sky. While fire bans can be in effect during high-risk periods, these facilities are a standard offering.

Beyond individual campsites, Tatanka Campground also features communal facilities essential for a pleasant stay. Restrooms are available throughout the campground, with some offering showers. It's worth noting that while shower houses are present, their distance from specific sites may vary. There is also a dump station located at the entrance to Keyhole State Park, providing a convenient service for RV campers. For group gatherings, Tatanka Campground offers two reservable group sites, perfect for family reunions or other social events.

The features of Tatanka Campground extend to a wealth of recreational activities available directly within the park and its vicinity. Keyhole Reservoir is a hub for water sports, including boating, water skiing, and other floating activities. There is a boat ramp within the Tatanka Campground itself, though it may not always have a dock system. Other boat ramps with docks are available at different campgrounds within Keyhole State Park, such as Wind Creek, Coulter Bay, and Pat's Point. The park also provides ample opportunities for hiking, with trails offering stunning views, especially at sunset. The proximity to the reservoir means that beach areas, while perhaps limited in sandy expanses, are good for enjoying the water.

Unique features of Keyhole State Park, accessible from Tatanka Campground, include the Keyhole Marina, operated by an independent contractor. The marina offers groceries, beverages, fishing and boating supplies, and even a selection of gift items. Visitors can also rent boats and sailboards, and purchase fuel. The marina also has a boat ramp with a dock system for both wet and dry boat storage. Additionally, Keyhole State Park boasts a unique feature: Wyoming's first state park treehouse, available for overnight stays, alongside four log cabin style units that can be reserved.

Regarding reservations and promotional information, Tatanka Campground operates primarily on a reservation system, particularly during the peak camping season from May 15th to September 15th. All sites are currently reservable and can be booked up to six months in advance. Outside of the reservation season, campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Fees for campsites range from $10.00 to $27.00 per night, with varying rates for Wyoming residents and non-residents. It's important for non-residents to be aware that fees may be higher, which has been noted by some campers. Daily use fees for Keyhole State Park are also required for entry, with options for single-day or annual permits. For the most current information, including availability alerts and specific site details, it is recommended to consult the Wyoming State Parks website or contact the park administration directly.

While specific promotional offers for Tatanka Campground itself might vary seasonally, the broader context of Campgrounds & RV Parks often includes discounts for extended stays, off-peak season rates, or special packages that combine camping with local attractions. For example, some campgrounds in the region might offer discounts through camping cards like ACSI or ADAC during specific periods. Visitors are encouraged to check the official Wyoming State Parks website or third-party booking platforms for any current promotions or discounts that might apply to Tatanka Campground or Keyhole State Park fees.

The campground's location also offers proximity to significant local attractions, enhancing the overall experience. Devils Tower National Monument, a striking geological formation, is a short drive away, providing an excellent day trip opportunity. Historic sites like the Vore Buffalo Jump and the scenic Black Hills are also within driving distance for those looking to explore the wider area. The nearby town of Pine Haven offers convenience with local dining options, grocery stores, and gas stations.

In summary, Tatanka Campground at Keyhole State Park offers a compelling camping experience for individuals, families, and groups. Its stunning natural environment, diverse amenities including electric and water hookups, and proximity to recreational activities and major attractions make it a highly desirable destination in the Campgrounds & RV Parks category. With readily available reservation options and essential facilities, Tatanka Campground stands as an inviting gateway to the beauty and adventure of Wyoming's outdoors.

Nice campground shower house very clean but does cost. Electric and water at sites and dump at entrance of park. Grass was nicely cut around sites and nice bike, walk path. The only reason not 5 stars is campers not having dogs on leashes and rangers never stopping and talking with the rule breakers. Never saw host .

There are several Wyoming State campsites in this area, but Tatanka is the only one with power and water. All sites have great access to the lake.

Tatanka Campground has tent sites marked with a T on the map. They are tent pads, some raised. I had a hard time keeping pegs in the sandish bed. Overall not bad and great view of the reservoir.
