A group of friends and I and my dog made the drive up to Tawney Farm from Ohio for a weekend camping trip, and we had a wonderful time! I was drawn to this spot as it provides you with seclusion and privacy unlike other overpopulated commercialized campgrounds, and we felt safe and secure during our stay. The owners, Susan and James, were very kind and went out of their way to help us and show us some of the beautiful spots to check out in the area. They provide a lot of amenities you can’t always get at campsites like drinking / hot water, a shower, portajohns, etc. We forgot to bring paddles for our kayaks, and we were able to borrow some of theirs that they provide onsite for guests to borrow. We stayed at campsite 8, which is about a 20 minute hike up the mountain. It is definitely worth the extra effort, but I do recommend packing as light as possible if you choose this site! It’s pretty steep, but there are flat areas along the way to stop and rest at. Being at the top of the mountain provided us with beautiful views and scenery, especially at night – we loved seeing shooting stars while we sat by the campfire! I’d absolutely recommend this place to any nature lovers who enjoy camping and appreciate the great outdoors. I was truly impressed with this spot and thankful for how welcoming Susan and James were to my friends and I. We even got to feed their mini horse, Peanut, a couple of apples! I hope to come back again in the future, maybe for Gauley season! Thank you again for showing us a great time!

Good open campground, away from most other people. Decent shower, places to get drinking water, wash dishes, and has out houses. Can get a good view of the stars at night

Great place! Beautiful view of the sky, beautiful property nice hosts. We stayed at sight 3. It’s a rustic and primitive camp sight but is close to a lot of good hiking and close to access to the river. Our hosts were very accommodating considering we had a big group with lots of wild and rambunctious kids. We as guests could have been a little more low impact on their property, (next time we’ll talk to our kids about that) but we appreciate their kindness. We had an issue with yellowjackets on our campsight and they helped us find the nest and deal with it to the best of their ability. Susan and her husband were very pleasant to talk to if you have time to chat. Hopefully we can become regulars at Tawny Farm.

A beautiful and peaceful place to take a break from the outside world. We were passing through town and pleasantly found Tawney Farms online. The owners Susan and James are amazing hosts. They made us feel very welcomed during our stay in the Nut House, which by the way super comfy and adorable. We stayed with our one year old. She loved the sheep and the herding chihuahua, Flow. Thank for your hospitality!
