We had a single, overnight stay at this beautiful campground and state park. The greeter at the entrance was incredibly friendly and helpful and the grounds were impeccably maintained. The sites had water and electricity and were nicely spaced with a level, gravel pad. We hiked several of the trails in the park and would definitely visit again.
A birders paradise! The night sky is a huge extra bonus. If you’re a birder check out the primitive camp access trail in the early morning hours. I saw Pileated Woodpeckers, White Eyed Vireos, Eastern Towhee and more! I didn’t get a chance to check any out other trails but I’m sure there’s tons of birds on the others as well. I loved camping where we did because we had a big open space to star gaze on the ground. Showers were clean, water was hot, bathrooms were spotless! We cant wait to go back
Stayed here for 3 nights using it as a jump off for bourbon country stops. Maybe not the closest place for doing that, but we really enjoyed this campground and would do it all over again. The sites are very spacious and separated. the grounds are well-maintained and beautiful. Very quiet at night with little light pollution. Surprised we didn't see more wildlife, but I'm sure it was around. All in all a great stay in a beautiful, low population density campground. Highly recommend.
We used this as a base for 3 days on the bourbon trail. Less than an hour from Louisville, Frankfort/Lawrenceburg, Bardstown/Lebanon. We had a Class B van RV, so we used the bathhouse for showers. Our shower is best for boondocking, it’s tiny. Good power and water. Super quiet at night. We stayed 3 nights on site 20 in early April. Only about half of the sites were full. Garbage is close by, RV dump site was good, could use a hose…. Weak but ok cell signal, AT&T and FirstNet had 5G 1-3 bars depending on location. Occasionally LTE. Lots of deer, can hear coyotes at night, saw a polecat in the culvert. Trash pandas around, too.
Had such a great time here. Bath houses are very clean as well as the campground. They have boat rentals which are very reasonable and the staff at the marina was very nice and helpful!
