Taylorsville Lake State Park Introduce
Taylorsville Lake State Park, located at 1320 Park Rd, Mt Eden, KY 40046, USA, provides a primitive camping experience within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category. This state park offers a mix of natural beauty and recreational activities, but has received mixed reviews concerning site privacy, maintenance, and staffing.
Based on customer reviews, Taylorsville Lake State Park offers a generally good camping experience, but with some notable drawbacks. While many sites are spaced out and private, the lack of online site photos can lead to unexpected site conditions. Site #4, for example, is best suited for groups due to its proximity to neighboring sites and lack of privacy. It also lacks a picnic table, which is not mentioned on the booking website. The bath house is well-maintained and clean, even during busy weekends, and playgrounds are available for children. However, a significant issue is the lack of staffing. Guests have reported difficulties finding staff to purchase firewood, particularly after 7 PM, and limited staff presence throughout their stay. Hiking trails vary in quality, with some being well-marked and maintained, while others are overgrown and poorly marked, requiring navigational skills. Lake activities are popular, with a nice lake and boat ramps available. Noise from mowing activities has also been a complaint.
Key features and observations from customer feedback include:
- Varied Site Privacy: Some sites are spaced out and private, while others are not.
- Site #4 Issues: Site #4 is not private and lacks a picnic table.
- Clean Bath House: The bath house is well-maintained and clean.
- Playgrounds: Playgrounds are available for children.
- Lack of Staffing: Staffing is limited, particularly after hours.
- Firewood Availability: Firewood is difficult to obtain after hours.
- Varied Trail Quality: Some trails are well-marked, while others are overgrown.
- Lake Activities: The lake offers various recreational activities.
- Boat Ramps: Nice boat ramps are available.
- Mowing Noise: Mowing noise can be disruptive.
Taylorsville Lake State Park is suitable for campers seeking a primitive camping experience with lake activities and playgrounds. However, potential visitors should be aware of the varied site privacy, limited staffing, and possible trail maintenance issues. It is recommended to carefully consider these factors and choose sites wisely. It is recommended for those who want lake activities and playgrounds. It is not recommended for those who want guaranteed privacy at campsites. Visitors should expect possible issues with staffing and trail maintenance. It is recommended to contact the park directly to confirm site availability, specific amenities, and any current regulations or warnings. Not my first time staying here. Always a good experience but this time we arrived at check in 2pm. Had the mower guys cutting from 2 pm till dark. Blowing dry died grass all over our site and tent. Didn’t appreciate the noise all day when trying to enjoy the camping life.
Overall this is a nice campground for primitive camping. The majority of the sites are spaced out and private but unfortunately I couldn't find any pictures online of the sites so the one we got was not private. We stayed at site #4 and it is best suited for a group of friends because your neighbors are 10-15 yards away with no trees or anything in between. The biggest issue with site #4 is there is no picnic table. Luckily we were only staying one night so not a big deal but there was no mention of it on the booking website (Reserve America). Aside from that, it is well kept and the bath house was pretty immaculate for such a full weekend. Several playgrounds nearby if you have kids to occupy. The main overall issue is the lack of staffing. I'm not sure if it's the usual or if there is a lack of staff in general but we got in shortly after 7PM and there was no ranger or staff to be found to get firewood. No honor system or anything so we had to venture out to find some after we got our tent up because the main office was closed as well. As a heads up, the Dollar General does not sell wood nor does the new Lakecity Mart gas station. We found a large white house/business of some sort that had an honor system and it was $10 for a massive bundle of wood. Oh and when we left on Sunday, as of about noon, there still wasn't any staff anywhere in the park that we saw. Not sure what was up with that. Some of the hiking trails were well marked and up kept but some others were not so if you aren't good with navigation, choose wisely. Biggest issue we had was with the Gazebo Loop Trail/Pioneer Trail. Several spots were overgrown and not marked so you had to guess a little bit until you ran back into a well worn trail. Didn't do any lake activities but the water looked nice and there was a lot of activity on it. Nice boat ramps as well. Overall a nice stay but choose your site wisely. I took several pictures of each site to help others in the future. I didn't get site 7 or 10 because they were occupied but they are pretty nice as well but 10 is slightly open and not as secluded.
This is one of the nicest state park campgrounds we've ever stayed at. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Site #42. 50/30/20, pedestal tall enough for Watchdog to clear the ground. Water. No sewer. Site was level enough that there was no issue just using the levelers on our Class A gas motorhome to level. There are only five sites in our loop. and this is the nicest loop, though the sites on the other loops are nice too. The spacing between the sites on this loop is ample, as are the other loops. While you can see the sites on either side, in this loop in particular, they are far enough away that the site feels quite private. Each of the sites in this loop have nice mature trees for shade. Sites are well compacted gravel, and are long enough for the coach and the car with no issues. Wide gravel patio with a picnic table and a fire ring with a cooking grate. 1 bar Verizon, 1 bar T-Mobile. Good enough AT&T for data. The park is big rig friendly. There is another section with tent sites, and a section with equestrian sites. There are a number of playgrounds, plenty of hiking, and a nice boat ramp, all in the park. The bathhouse was clean, and the showers had good pressure and ample hot water. There were two clothes washers and two dryers at the end of the bathhouse, all very reasonably priced.
Overall we had the best week of camping and it was our best experience at any Kentucky State Park campground so far. We loved being able to rent boats at the marina and everyone was so friendly! Only complaint is that the bathrooms at the campground need more attention. The womens was out of toilet paper for almost 2 days. And the trash was only emptied once the entire week we were there.
This place is gorgeous! It's about an hour drive from our home in South Lexington. We had a campout there with a troop of one of my Children's. The primitive camping area is clean and very well maintained. Nice s'more area around the campfire! We did not encounter any Critters but we keep a really clean camp area. Shower houses were not spotless but very nice and well maintained in terms of mechanics. Laundry room was clean and well maintained. Fishing off of the boat dock was really nice and convenient.
