🗺️ Location and Accessibility: Right on the Scenic North Shore

The Temperance River Upper Campground is perfectly situated on Minnesota's famed North Shore of Lake Superior. Its official address is Upper Campground, Schroeder, MN 55613, USA. The park is conveniently located right off State Highway 61, the main artery connecting Duluth to the Canadian border, making it exceptionally easy to find for travelers coming from the Twin Cities or other parts of Minnesota.

Accessibility is a key advantage of the Upper Campground. As a State Park site, it offers drive-in campsites, accommodating a variety of vehicles including RVs and trailers (up to a 60-foot length limit is noted for the overall park). The entire park area, including the campgrounds, trails, picnic areas, and Lake Superior shore, is accessible directly from the main road. The layout of the Upper Campground features paved roads within the ring, which minimizes dust and provides easy navigation. While some campsites are closer to the highway, the majority are nestled among the trees, offering good shade and separation. The proximity to all major trails and points of interest—including the picnic area, Hidden Falls, and the Lake Superior shore—means visitors can park their vehicle and explore most of the park entirely on foot.

The campgrounds here are very good. The picnic area, trails, waterfalls, and lake are right next door. Most of the sites are spread out and shaded. You are literally next to the lake. Plus there is a newer updated bathroom building. I liked sites 22, 23 25, 26, 28, 30, 6, and 7 for lake views. Or get on the outsides of the ring, inner parts are a little cramped.

What a fantastic campground. There is so much to do and trails to hike, all from the campground. The bathrooms and showers are very clean. There are plenty of showers, and a couple are even bathroom/shower combos. There are also primitive bathrooms throughout the campground, and they are really clean. The sites are very spacious and separated. You are not on top of each other. There is a bridge and the hidden falls that are all within walking distance. This is definitely on our list to return here.

Love this campground! Brand new showers and bathrooms. We hiked along the river and crossed over at a shallow spot, hiked back on the other side. Very developed trails. Sitting on the rocks late at night and listening to Lake Superior is a vibe!

Stayed for four nights on North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota. Clean bathrooms and showers. Flush toilets and showers in upper campground. Otherwise vault toilets. Very busy so suggest reservations before you come. Electric sites more expensive than non-electric. Get hit with reservation fee and have to pay for MN state Park pass (daily or yearly). Hard to get in on the fly so had to switch campsites everyday. Great trails and views from campground. Be prepared for mosquitoes. Got to love Minnesota!
