We’ve made the 9 hour drive 3 times to stay at Terlingua Ranch and have enjoyed our stay every time. We even decided to get married there back in October. We really appreciated the atmosphere and the attention from the staff. The rooms were clean and the food at the Bad Rabbit was awesome. They did a great job accommodating our large group of family and friends. Will definitely be back. Special thanks to Dre in the kitchen!!
If you're just staying for a night Terlinga Ranch is a decent (possibly a bit overpriced) option. Should have read the reviews before booking because the drive from the cabins to Big Bend was exhausting (1-1.5+ hours depending on where exactly you want to go in the park). And you're 30 miles away from the actual town of Terlinga and any other food options. The gravel/ dirt drive for 3 miles gets exhausting (we have done 3/4 nights so far). Cannot speak to staff/ service as we checked in after hours (which went fine after locating the cabin). Let's talk about the cabin/ room: it is SO DARK. We have 3 lights in the main room and we have to use our phone flashlight or headlamp to see because it's just that dark- I know we worry about light pollution but this seems extreme. There is no exhaust fan in the shower so there is mold. There is no hair dryer, microwave or coffee pot - acceptable but sad for the price. The floor is a bit sticky but the sheets/bed and bath were all clean themselves. The wifi works. If the price was significantly cheaper (for a cabin/room) than other options I'd say go for it and stay here- otherwise I'd recommend a different option if available.
Stayed here for a few nights while visiting Big Bend. Absolutely loved this lodge. Beautiful location. Overall accommodations are amazing especially for such a great price. After a good day of hiking coming back here was great. The lodges are comfortable and the sky’s at night are a beautiful dark sky filled with stars. Wake up in the morning to a beautiful desert. Staff keeps everything great. Cafe at the lodge is good food. If you appreciate the quiet seclusion of the desert you will love this lodge
Restaurant was excellent. WiFi is extremely shaky and there is no cellular service. Don’t follow the GPS directions if they tell you to take Terlingua Ranch road. It was 24 miles of washboard caliche road. It took me an hour and a half and probably damaged my Class C. After I turned onto the road I saw the sign saying 4wd and high clearance recommended, but I couldn’t back up because I was towing a car dolly and my poor Jetta which took a beating. My BIL had more sense and took the asphalt road, so he only had 3 miles of torture. The reservation email warns you not to take GPS directions. I will be paying more attention to my reservation emails in the future.
If you're staying here thinking you're staying in Terlingua proper, you're not. It's an hour drive to the "center" of Terlingua. And actually when we put the Lodge's address into GPS it gave us an Alpine address. So the name is misleading. If you're using this as a base camp for visiting Big Bend, it's about an hour and half to Panther Junction. Add an additional 20 minutes to the drive times given by Google Maps, the last three miles are probably the worst gravel road I've ever encountered (big rocks, washboard and washouts). So if you have a nice car or would rather not have to pay for a new front-end alignment, I'd avoid this place. We had a two night reservation here, but didn't return for the second night solely because of the road. Other than that, the place is pretty plain-jane. And noisy, our cabin was a four-plex and the neighbors were up early to get to Big Bend. Not really worth what they were charging.
