- SO BEAUTIFUL - quiet and safe.
- We got an area all to ourselves with minimal people / cars around.
- Check-in was very simple, with sweet employee.
- Cop on duty as well.
- Park ranger was really awesome and came by to warn us that the gate would be closing.
- We were able to drive to a secluded swimming spot - hunted driftwood and shells.
- I loved it - such a relaxing night stay!
- 10/10 recommend!
- Even though open and poor vegetation, still excellent! Variety of spaces from small to supersized, electric and water, damp station just few feet away from the entrance. Excellent host. Fantastic views. Lots of space around and between sites. Great for dogs.
- Lake is not clear, like Colorado waters, still good.
- One little downside - watch for the road that leads to park, once you’re off the highway, potholes everywhere, if heavy, drive 25-30 mph, to have time to react. They are circled with spray paint, but paint wore out.

Pretty nice campground on the east side of Cochiti Lake. For some reason, it closes in October. I think it should be open April-November. A lot of the nearby land is reservation land that is closed to entry. This means we weren’t able to explore this area as much as we would’ve liked. Saw a cool tarantula. These pix taken October 2016. A good overnight stop.
I’m a huge fan of New Mexico campgrounds … but am sorry to say this one does not cut it. There is no water here. To be fair, campers are warned of this when they book. The sites are close and dusty. The entire campground needs a lot of TLC. Head to Cochiti Lake campground instead!
Cochiti Lake is a very nice getaway only an hour out of Albuquerque for family fun fishing and overall recreational enjoyment. This dam provides control systems into the south Rio Grande river as it flows into Albuquerque
Nice lake to relax and fish when you can't afford to go very far. Bathrooms need work, the only nicer one is by the boat ramp the rest don't have locks and are filled with wasps. Also would be nice if the gate opened before 8 a.m. for better fishing.
