Beautiful place to camp close to Lake Agnes and the American Lakes trailhead, that includes an alternate trail from the campground to reach those popular destinations. Although unlike one of the comments below, if you hike from the campground, Lake Agnes is ~4.5-5 miles round trip. Clean restrooms, relatively quiet. Didn't see any wildlife during my two night stay but I'm sure they are around!

My boys and I really enjoyed this campground. Tent pads are currently being added by volunteers and it was nice to set up our giant tent on a flat pad. The sites, while fairly close together, are well isolated by trees. We could hear conversations in the night, but our neighbors were all courteous about keeping the noise reasonable and honoring quiet hours. There are fire rings with grills and picnic tables at each site as well. Access road is rocky. I can see why trailers and RVs are frowned upon, but most cars and any SUV should be fine. My Toyota Highlander had no issues. There is a single stall vault toilet at the entrance to the campground. Someone noted in another review that toilet paper availability is inconsistent, so bring your own to be safe. We saw a few elk. No moose. Lots of Stellar's Jays, other birds, and squirrels. It was a good outing. I would return to this site.

Reservations are a bit pricey and you need to buy a parking permit unless you have a State Parks Pass. There's lots of pretty scenery, and mosquitoes. We saw chipmunks, skunks, mule deer, steller's jays, camp robbers, bear, moose and bobcat. Our first night we heard a mountain lion tom calling from deep in the forest. The campfire rings are very nice and well kept considering how busy this place gets. People seem to respect the property, and that's nice. You don't need high clearance to get in and out but it's steep and narrow so go slow.

Absolutely stunning views from Crags Campground. Weather was perfect day/night when we went in early July. Saw a few moose just past Camron pass on our way in. Would highly recommended spending some time up here to relax. Crags is one large loop with the restrooms at the start/finish. We had well water available. Bear proof trash cans were never full. CPW cleaved restrooms every morning, thank you!! Lake Agnes was only a 0.8 switchback hike and worth the view. Saw a marmot up there. Fishing was plentiful everywhere we went. Can’t complain about this camping trip!

Great campsites. Trees, good separation, plenty of space for tents, etc. A nice surprise: a tested water well with hand pump. Takes some work: the well is 150 ft deep! But the cold fresh water is wonderful. A nasty surprise I hope they work on: the two room outhouse is absolutely inundated with flies on hot days, and there's only room for two TP rolls so it tends to run out before they have a chance to refill on a busy weekend. Be prepared.
