I made a trip to the lodge for lunch with friends at the restaurant overlooking Pickwick Lake. I had the pleasure of meeting Clint, the Director of Food and Beverage. It had been years since my previous visit to the restaurant and I was pleased with the shrimp and grits I ordered. The portion was generous and very tasty. We splurged on dessert, which I typically don't do, and they were fabulous and also we received generous servings. We had banana pudding with big slices of banana and meringue and a very tasty plum cobbler that was well baked, but not mushy. I am looking forward to my next meal down there!
The service was was great.Summer was super nice and helpful. The front staff always greeted you with a smile. If you called for something they came quickly. The restaurant food was amazing and had the perfect view. We stayed for over a week while our home was being redone. I would highly recommend the staff and hotel as well as the restaurant.
PROS: The staff were extremely friendly and the entry was beautiful! The sites were also very beautiful with a lake front view. The grounds were very well kept and we saw a lot of wildlife! The bathroom was very nice and the toilet/shower was clean (just not the floor as described below). The shampoo and conditioner provided was good quality! CONS: The room though was less than impressive. We come in at midnight after a very long drive just to not have a fitted sheet on the bed and plastic wrappers in the floor of the bathroom. The bed was made but it looked like they didn’t clean the floor (because of the trash). My husband travels for work staying in $40 a night rooms and he said these were the worst pillows he had ever slept on. We are both very easy to please but for the price of the room we expected so much more. We did not complain to the front desk because we were exhausted and were there for an event so we weren’t even in the room much. With how great the staff was, I’m sure they would have fixed the sheet problem, we were just too tired to deal with it. I would recommend to stay here for the scenery but the price for the quality of the room wasn’t worth it in my opinion. I made peace with the price by thinking I am contributing to the upkeep of the state park.
Stayed here last minute. Room was clean and very nice. The view was wonderful. The smell outside makes me nauseous from the local factory. Did not get to eat in restaurant. The only thing I could complain about is for the price, the continental breakfast is horrible. I’ve had better breakfast at motels. They only offer cereal, waffles and oatmeal.
I would give it a 5 star, but my only complaint is if I am paying 235 dollars for one night on a weekend, then they should have at least movie channels or the continental breakfast. It had neither. The breakfast is only thru the week, and they have no premium channels. other than that, it is a great place to stay with a wonderful view of the water.
