We just completed a 4-night stay at the Outpost. It has been one of our most enjoyable campsites in a long time! Why?.., first and foremost, the owners (including their dog) were the most easy-going and courteous people, we totally enjoyed their company. Their staff were also outstanding.., kind and customer focused. The campground would meet your needs whether you drive a class A, B, or C. In addition, numerous tent campsites, as well as a selection of cool cabins. There is a large communal area with a campfire pit, numerous games, etc. Over the weekends, there’s a food truck and also a pretty spacious lodge, where one night was a Halloween square dance, and the other night was two great acoustic acts. Beer and wine is also served. The campsite location is centrally located so you can enjoy all that the New River Gorge National Park has to offer. If I could, I’d give this campground 10-stars. Thanks so much Outpost.., we’ll see you in the spring!
So glad I found The Outpost! We stayed 3 nights in a RV - partial hookup site, the sites along the road are a little small but level gravel pads with plenty of shade and close proximity to the bathhouse (yes, it really is as nice as everyone says). The campground is very well maintained and the staff was friendly. Love that they offer options for all types of camping (the tent pads looked really cool). There were a few larger cabins in the process of being built and we heard the owner just purchased 15 acres with plans to expand. The location was easy to get to and very close to tons of activities/attractions. We’ll definitely be back!
Stayed at a campsite 2023 for Bridge Day. Called ahead as we were due to arrive a day early and they said it was perfectly fine, and they kindly didn’t charge us for it. Spent a few days exploring, little hikes, wandering. Facilities are the best. Glorious showers, fire wood delivery, very manicured site. Fitting a truck and two tents on our site with the fire picnic and table and still had space! Our friend lucked into a last minute cancellation cabin and man was that sweet to hang out in for an evening. Super clean (with a space heater). Office/shop people were friendly and made checking in and out a breeze. Best four days ever. I set a reminder, 180 days before Bridge Day this year to call, email, send smoke signals to book myself a cabin this time. Just in case I booked that extra day ahead of time. Stoked to be returning. Perfectly located spot where you feel very pampered.
We enjoyed our stay at The Outpost and would stay there again if we are in the area. Perfect location for exploring New River Gorge. Nice variety of sites. The tent platforms look awesome and we’d like to try one of those next time. The music and food truck available on Saturday and Sunday were a nice treat. I was worried at first because we were camping with a toddler and didn’t want it to keep him awake but we stayed in the lower outpost area and you couldn’t hear it.
Just returned from a week stay at the Outpost. The campground lived up to its online reviews. In fact, it was better! Stayed RV site 19 with full hookups. Plenty of room. The bathhouse was one of the nicest we have seen in all of our travels. The laundry was nice and clean too. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Hope to return some day.
