Customer Reviews
A Masterclass in Mismanagement at Thousand Trails Green Mountain. If you're considering a stay at Thousand Trails Green Mountain and value your sanity, read on. Our check-in experience with Linda, the "manager," was an absolute circus of incompetence and rudeness. Despite my rig being officially listed as 42' in their system, reflecting my attached home office trailer, someone had mysteriously altered (in pen) to 30'. Enter Linda, armed with the audacity of a pirate commandeering a ship, who insisted that my trailer didn’t count because it was "detachable." Explaining that I had adventure membership specifically with these provided details in the system fell on deaf ears. As I tried to reason with her, Linda escalated to full meltdown mode, complete with yelling over me and my father. Her finale? A condescending hand in my face to shush me like a disobedient child, paired with demeaning remarks that would make a drill sergeant blush. This wasn’t just poor customer service; it was an all-out assault on decency. If professionalism and respect are part of your criteria for a decent stay, consider this a warning. As for us? We’re steering clear of Thousand Trails Green Mountain until they chart a course back to basic human courtesy—starting with a new manager. — at Thousand Trails Green Mountain.
We received a one year free membership in Thousand Trails CG when we bought our new Grand Design TT. After calling three different locations to book a week vacation, only to find out everyone was full until the end of November, we ended up at the Green Mountain in Lenoir, NC. Well once again, we found out you get what you paid for! Small unmaintained site with a fire ring somewhere under the uncut weed way to close to the camper to even use. Trust me when I tell you the miniature golf course, pool and other onsite facility look much better on the website than in real life. Unmaintained cabins along with fulltime RVs that should take more pride in their chosen lifestyle. This CG could be a very nice get-a-way close to all the conveniences of a small town a few miles away, but it isn't today.
Older rv park in a great setting. The road is ok it is rough in places. Towards the 600 700 section, it turns to gravel and gets worse with potholes, etc. Tv reception is decent and ATT with weboost pointed towards office was usable. Starlink works well with no trees around in that section.
We really enjoyed our time here! It does show a little age, but you can tell that they genuinely do there best. The trails are incredible! It's very quiet and lovely. The only issue is the water pressure, but I don't think they can do much about it. The management and other personel were very nice and helpful. It's in a great location that's very close to stores and restaurants, but still away from the noise and bustle.
I liked this campground enough to get a Thousand Trails membership, but I did feel like the gatehouse attendant was short verbally with me even though I was trying to be very polite and a bit rudely shot down my request to be relocated to a nearby empty site that had more shade. The webpage said that no sites were able to be reserved, so I was a bit confused when I was not allowed to move a site or two over that was empty to get more shade. The water pressure never made it over 20 psi the whole trip, which made using water inside the RV a challenge. Turning on the RV water pump only introduced air into the lines, so that didn't help. At least the electric had 50, 30, and 15A options, never flickered or went down. Our site also had a sewer hookup super close to the back of the site, so I ended up going into town and buying a shorter sewer drain hose. The pool was nice as well as the activity lodge. Very nice and well kept facilities. Overall, the campground was well situated, but I must say I prefer other locations if you intend to travel into town and explore the area. Lenoir NC was a bit run down and seemed to be economically struggling, but that, of course, is not the fault of the campground. We'll be back and we'll have a great time!
This is an older campground with campsites for anything from tents to larger Class A motorcoaches. The good: has a great location in a valley with trees and big hills all around. There are 7 miles of hiking trails with moderate to challenging difficulty. There are some pretty good hills to climb. The views and wildlife are great! You hear Pileated Woodpeckers and all sorts of birds. There are deer around too and a variety of interesting plants and morels (mushrooms) the place is literally covered in rhodedendron bushes that will certainly be beautiful in the month of May or so. The okay: sites are mostly unpaved and not very level. Expect to have to add 1 to 4 inches on one side of your camper to get level. The water pressure was very high so I recommend you have a pressure regulator as to not damage your camper plumbing. The ugly: the facilities are in pretty bad shape with the exception of the very nice clubhouse. The putt putt is a 9 hole course with some challenges including a lot of moss and dirt on the surfaces. The tennis courts are definitely in bad repair and need resurfacing. Shuffleboard is also in bad need of resurfacing. The bath house near the 700 area had heat running all the time which made it a sauna and a haven for bugs and other animals. Some of the fixtures are out of order. Cellular coverage here is bad so don't expect to work or make phone calls unless you have satellite service or subscribe to the $8/day Internet Wifi they offer which honestly wasn't bad. I'd definitely camp here again but with lower expectations about the facility and because of the positive things like being unplugged from my phone and the beautiful surroundings. I'd like to end my review on a positive note with a request that whatever is needed to get this place in good shape be made known both to the patrons and to the Thousand Trails management. I believe there are good people out there who love to camp who would be willing to assist in some of the needed maintenance of surfaces as well as electrical, heating, and plumbing. A crew with a power washer and a few hours to resurface the shuffleboard court would be a good start. Would you be willing to offer free nights or weeks of camping in exchange for work? Let's be positive. I can only give 3 stars because that is honest. But the campground has great potential and a lot of positives.
The staff are really very nice, friendly and accommodating. However, the owners should be ashamed of the condition of the facility. There are 3 large potholes in the road that you drive into after crossing the bridge. The tree limbs are overhanging and WILL scratch the side of your rig. The park needs to have roads adequately repaired and the exits should be repaired or at least have correct signage. This park may have been a good park at one time but not at this time due to the deferred maintenance and corporate neglect. I would feel deceived if had bought into this membership.
Quiet camping environment. Nights are filled with nature sounds. Small pool just right for cooling off. Splash pad is so much fun for the little ones. Hiking 🥾 step and moderate hikes. Choose different types of hiking. A pond full of borrowed fish I should say, catch and release. Dragonflies butterflies and birds. Lots and lots of birds. Basketball and so much more laundry 🧺 on campground. Full hookups as well as tents. 2 bathhouses. So many happy campers. Waves and smiles. Every morning I see dogs walking their humans that are in much need of coffee. Did I mention it's quiet. Campfires and picnic tables and golf carts everywhere you look but still spaced out so you can enjoy the beautiful mountains surrounding you.
We were very disappointed with our recent visit. The pool was not open during Memorial Day weekend due to a “broken part”—the same issue that occurred last year. This kind of delay suggests poor planning; necessary parts should be kept on hand, especially ahead of major holiday weekends. The upper road remains unrepaired, and there are heavily eroded sections at the 700 entrance. The block retaining walls in that area appear unstable and on the verge of collapse. Tree overgrowth is another issue—trees need to be trimmed back throughout the campground and on nearby state roads to accommodate taller campers. NCDOT may need to be contacted regarding the state roads. Many campsites were uninhabitable. It appeared that only the permanent sites in the “downtown” section were being maintained, while others—including those in the 700 section—were overcrowded and in poor condition. We were not given the option to choose our site and were packed in with little space or privacy. Additionally, the office was locked, and we had to conduct business through a window, which made check-in and communication feel impersonal and inconvenient. Overall, the lack of maintenance and customer care significantly impacted our experience.
Went back to the old campground I grew up at, and all of the amenities have gone downhill. Most campsites are annuals in the front so part timers have to drive all they to the back to camp, and overall it looks trashy. Shuffleboard area was not taken care of, putt putt had overgrown grass, and the pool was green. Would maybe go back.
