This article is written for you, our local community, to provide a balanced and detailed insight into what makes this Thousand Trails property a popular choice for many, highlighting its beautiful setting, range of amenities, and the unique experience it offers. We'll delve into both the celebrated aspects and common considerations, ensuring you're well-informed for your next North Carolina outdoor adventure.

Thousand Trails Lake Gaston is a significant RV and camping resort that is part of the larger Thousand Trails network, known for offering membership-based camping across North America. Located directly on the shores of Lake Gaston, this resort capitalizes on its stunning waterfront setting. Lake Gaston itself is a man-made lake, approximately 34 miles long with over 350 miles of shoreline, making it a hotspot for water activities and fishing. This particular Thousand Trails location is praised by many members as one of their "absolute favorite" campgrounds within the network, often highlighted for its beautiful maintenance and incredible lake views. It’s designed to provide a comprehensive resort experience with a focus on RV camping, offering a mix of spacious sites and community amenities. While some visitors have noted challenges with site assignment and road conditions, the overall consensus from many satisfied guests points to a welcoming atmosphere and a strong appeal for those seeking a dedicated lakeside RV experience. It aims to be a home away from home for many, providing a consistent and amenity-rich environment.

Thousand Trails Lake Gaston is conveniently located at 561 Fleming Dairy Road, Littleton, NC 27850, USA. This address places it in Warren County, in the northeastern part of North Carolina, very close to the Virginia border. Its proximity to Lake Gaston, a highly popular recreational lake that spans both North Carolina and Virginia, is a major draw.

For North Carolina residents, the campground is easily accessible from major interstates like I-95. From the Raleigh-Durham area, it’s typically about an hour to an hour and a half drive north. From the eastern parts of the state, it's also a manageable journey, often involving scenic routes. While the resort offers a feeling of being immersed in nature, the nearby town of Littleton provides basic amenities like a grocery store and gas stations, allowing for convenient resupply trips. However, it's important for those with large rigs to be aware that some internal roads within the campground have been described as challenging due to their condition ("horrible, washed out and hard to navigate"). It’s advisable to drive cautiously, especially with larger vehicles. Despite these internal navigation points, the overall accessibility from major population centers makes Thousand Trails Lake Gaston a very convenient and popular choice for North Carolinians looking for a dedicated RV and camping experience on a major lake.

Out of the 15 or so Thousand Trails campgrounds we’ve visited, this one has been our absolute favorite so far! It’s beautifully maintained, and the lake views are incredible. We were greeted by Jim, who was nothing short of amazing—he made us feel truly welcome and, most of all, well taken care of. Talk about hospitality! There’s also a Trading Post with a great little store and an awesome staff. Peggy made us a delicious burger—be sure to try the Gaston Burger; we were seriously impressed! We cannot rave enough! This Thousand Trails location will definitely stay on our list for future travels.

This place needs some serious work done in all aspects!! From management down to the condition of this park. The roads are horrible, washed out and hard to navigate through out especially with large rigs pulled by large vehicles. ( I'm about 70ft long all together) The assignment of sites is a complete and utter shit show. Booked ours online, confirmed everything days before and got my site assignment. Then got here, and they put me in whatever they felt like and just had to deal with it because everything else was taken including the site I was originally assigned!! Our site was obviously not what we booked (FHU) and very unlevel. It took alot of blockes to finally get our rig somewhat leveled out but still not completely. The spots are really tight and unnecessarily close together. Some of the staff I delt with were friendly and sympathetic to our situation and agree the assignment of sites is causing major problems throughout but alas nothing will happen to change anything.

We were excited to visit a new place with our camper thru Thousand Trails! We kept wondering why we weren't assigned a spot when we set the reservation. Upon arrival, there's a gate with a "walkie talkie" to speak with someone, and get the info packet from a box at the gate. You DO NOT get to choose your camping spot! The spot had a nice view, but not level AT ALL. The sites were super close together. Our fire pit was right next to the truck of the camper next to us. Very awkward. The beach was VERY nice and clean.. even raked sand! Impressed! If you've never been here before like us, this is mostly a permanent camp spot for most folks. Everyone was super friendly! Golf carts galore. If you're looking for a quiet weekend getaway, IMO, this is not it. Saturday night had loud music, dancing, and drinking by the locals haha! BUT the positive parts are the wonderful ladies that run the store! Peggy is the best! Vast choice of items in the store including ice cream and grill. Mini golf is in the shade and fun..challenging as well! The pool looked very nice and seemed to be popular even tho we didn't try it out. I would say overall, we must likely will not return due to the loudness of the park on Saturday night.

Rosemary is absolutely wonderful. The rest of the staff are hit or miss. Very few sites have sewer, and even fewer are open to transients. We will see how this change to assigned sites goes. They have their own honey wagon but you have to sign up ahead of time and pay a fee. I cannot speak for all parks, but every one I've been to provided free honey wagon service from their own trucks. The park itself is Years behind in maintenance but they keep increasing the price for the annuals (who can only stay April through October). They also doubled the fee for boat slips. They do decorate for the holidays which is great, and the store is one of the bigger ones I've seen with some neat stuff. The people we met there were great, but even they've said they are thinking about canceling their annual sites/ not stopping by in the future. We might stop for a day or two on the way by, but I don't believe we will bother staying longer.

Inaccurate information on website and booking. Sites are NOT determined at checkin as advertised, it is pre-determined as to whether or not you get a site with true full hookups. Don’t expect to have full hookups for any booking despite what you pay or reserve. The office staff will point you to the corporate number and the corporate number will tell you that it is a local decision. Really would be nice if someone opened a campground for Lake Gaston and not just a permanent site location that wants to rent out a handful of retail sites which do not meet the advertised amenities.
