Thousand Trails Snowflower Introduce

Welcome to Thousand Trails Snowflower, a remote mountain campground located in Emigrant Gap, California. As part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, Thousand Trails Snowflower offers a unique camping experience in a secluded setting.

Location and Contact:

Thousand Trails Snowflower is located at 41776 Yuba Gap Dr, Emigrant Gap, CA 95715. For inquiries or reservations, you can contact them at (530) 389-8241 or +1 530-389-8241.

Environment and Features:

The campground is situated in a remote mountain area, characterized by cold temperatures even during the summer months. Visitors should pack winter clothing as temperatures can drop into the 30s-50s. The campground features a lake, although it is often too cold for swimming. The trees in the area produce a significant amount of sap, which can be difficult to remove from vehicles and equipment. The campground's remote location means limited access to basic needs, and nearby Truckee is often crowded. Reno is the recommended location for stocking up on supplies.

Services and Amenities:

  • Lake access (for viewing, not swimming).
  • Campground staff.
  • Paved lot area for camping.

Customer Feedback:

Customer reviews present a mixed experience. Some visitors praise the lovely staff and well-kept campground, emphasizing the need to be prepared for cold weather and sticky tree sap. However, other reviews highlight negative interactions with staff, particularly one individual described as rude and unfriendly. Complaints include perceived harassment, small and crowded campsites, and poor handling of noise complaints. The lake is described as more of a pond. The remote location and limited local resources are also noted.

Important Considerations:

  • Very cold temperatures, even in summer.
  • Significant tree sap issues.
  • Remote location with limited access to supplies.
  • Potential for negative staff interactions.
  • Small and crowded campsites.
  • Lake is more of a pond.

Thousand Trails Snowflower offers a remote mountain camping experience, but visitors should be prepared for cold weather, tree sap issues, and potential staff-related concerns. Stocking up on supplies before arrival is highly recommended. Consider the paved lot area for camping to avoid tree sap. Be aware of the potential for negative staff interactions and smaller campsites.

The staff was lovely and the campground is well kept. A couple of things to note for your visit: 1) pack winter clothing for the summer, it gets very cold here, even in the summer (30s-50s)! It's too cold for swimming but the lake is nice to look at! 2) the trees are non stop with shredding and weeping sap, which I guess requires a special oil based cleaner to remove... so, next time, I'm definitely staying in the paved lot area. 3) you're really remote from basic needs and Truckee is very very small and very very very crowded so you really need to go to Reno for basics... so stock up before arriving. if you keep this all in mind, you'll have a wonderful trip!!

If you are looking for a peaceful camping experience this place isnt it the staff especial the short haired lady running the place is very rude and unfriendly she targeted us the second we pulled in with a trump flag on our sxs. This is worst place to stay. The camp sites are very small and crowed barly any room. I get better service and more privacy at a public campsite dont waist your money here its nothing special the lake is more of a pond lol. Our whole 3 days there we were constantly harassed by staff. We were considering joining thousand trails definitely not after this experience I'll stick with Colorado river adventures where the staff actually care and treat everyone with respect. The first first night we sent a message like there instructions say but no one came to take care of the drunk people at 2am and when i confronted the lady up front she lied to my face and said she didn't receive a message. This staff is a joke the lady running this place is a joke.

The staff are doing their best. They are super friendly. Can’t ask for better Saturday music. The pool is prestige. The bathrooms has the best voyuers, mini frogs. Great job everyone trying to enforce rules.

I was super hopeful my campsite would be nice, as the location is great. But, after dragging my travel trailer up there and searching for hours (on a gravel road, in 4wd), I realized the lack of decent spots (that were available) and amenities was not worth the trouble. I paid for reservations for 3 nights, but was on my own to find an open site. If you value a decent camping experience, try another place. If you are deserapte, I guess this might do. I was not desperate.

We are a member of RPI. I booked our reservation a month ago, we left at a reasonable time Friday, July 26, but unfortunately got stuck in a vehicle fire on our way putting us behind. Let me just say there was no point in making a reservation here, it's first come first serve no matter what and people come in and save spots for others, even with no trailer! I would say the Rangers don't do the best job surveying the campsites because people just do whatever they want. After finally finding a spot almost two hours later, we parked in the Cliff's, beautiful scenery and close to the lake! Absolutely breathtaking, fun ski lodge for the kids and a relatively warm swimming pool all closeby. I think this campground needs to manage their reservation system better and consider assigning spots, especially to members.

Overall, the campground is really nice. Beautiful location with a nice small lake to enjoy. The downside is the assigned sites at check-in. Our assigned site was too small for our rig. After waiting for about one hour to have our site re-assigned due to four or five other families needing site re-assignments for the same issue we had, Collette assigned us to The Cliffs. This section turned out to be perfect for our friends and us. We were able to stay together where we were not able to stay together in our original assigned sites. Collette did her best with what she was given to help the families who were displaced due to the new TT assigned site system. She went above and beyond staying overtime to help the long line of folks needing help. This cannot be easy for her. We did enjoy our stay and will be back but I am not sure this new assigned system is working well. One complaint: I attempted to contact the office several times for weeks prior to our arrival. The voicemail is chronically full and no one answers the phone when calling directly to the office.

Stayed in a trailer spot #60. Nice area. The campground is spread out so it doesn't feel crowded. Nice lake on the ground. Dogs enjoyed that the best. Lodge with a pool table, foosball and plenty of games. Bring lots of bug spray tons of mosquitoes. No luck with the fishing.

I would say that your experience depends very much on where you're staying. I understand that members cannot choose the area, please correct me if I'm wrong. The lower loops close to the lake seem much better. We were assigned a spot up there, and from the entrance to there is like a 15-20 minute drive on terrible roads, holes, bumps and all (including the longer road that is supposed to be better). After settling down we wanted to walk to the lake and the clubhouse, and gave it a try - you can't cut across the forest and would have to hike for a very long time to get there. Lots of bugs, too - never been to a place with so many. Overall lovely nature, good lower loop sites, but terrible roads - I hope they can do something about that.

Great location near Donner Lake and to explore Tahoe area, right off the freeway and by a small lake. However, this place may not be for everyone - The campsites are small with limited space to hangout outside of your RVs, and most pads are not leveled. It is not possible to book specific campsites, but are assigned by the host. We were originally assigned a site on the cliff that we could not have realistically gotten to since the road was uneven, inclined, and required 4x4 - the host was kind enough to find us a different spot in the lower section BUT had we arrived 15 mins late, we would have been pre-assigned that cliff spot. It was horrifying for me to imagine taking my trailer and SUV up the broken road. Secondly, while this is nature, there were too many bugs and mosquitos as with any campground near a water body - so if that is something you are not a fan of, I'd say keep looking for another place. On the positive side, the host was kind, and the place had decent facilities - lodge, dump stations (2x), laundry, children play area, water access, fishing, etc.
