Tiber Marina Campground Introduce
For Montanans seeking a quintessential reservoir experience that combines vast, open spaces with excellent water access and superb fishing, the Tiber Marina Campground offers a prime location. Situated on the shores of Lake Elwell, also widely known as the Tiber Reservoir, this destination near Chester, MT, provides a welcome escape into the stateās rugged, yet beautiful, north-central high plains.
Tiber Marina Campground caters to both the seasoned RVer and the tent camper looking for a quiet, view-rich retreat. While the main marina operations are seasonal, focusing on the peak summer months, a key benefit is the year-round accessibility and functionality of the basic facilities. Visitors frequently praise the campground for its nice and quiet atmosphere, especially during the off-season when they may have the entire place to themselvesāa true luxury in Big Sky Country. The stunning views of the reservoir and the surrounding prairie landscape are a constant draw, making it a peaceful and worthwhile drive for those who value solitude and nature.
The site offers a basic, well-maintained experience, embodying the no-fuss, authentic Montana camping spirit. The combination of essential utilities and an unbeatable lakeside location makes Tiber Marina Campground a reliable and highly-regarded spot in the Chester area.
The Tiber Marina Campground is located at the edge of the scenic Tiber Reservoir (Lake Elwell), a massive body of water created by the Tiber Dam on the Marias River. The official location is near Chester, MT 59522, USA.
Accessibility is straightforward via regional roads, although local users should note that the campground is considered "a bit of a drive to town," reinforcing its secluded, rural Montana character. This distance, however, is precisely what contributes to the campgroundās highly valued peace and quiet. The route often involves traveling south from US Highway 2 on MT Highway 223 before taking the gravel Tiber Road, but the roads are generally well-signed.
The reservoir itself is a massive recreational area, boasting over 180 miles of shoreline and encompassing over 21,000 acres of water surface. The campground is strategically placed to offer easy access to the water. Visitors during the quieter months appreciate that, despite the drive, the journey delivers them to a spot of immense tranquility, often providing a sense of having the vast Montana landscape entirely to themselves. Campers should always check conditions, as cell phone service is very limited around the reservoir, making pre-trip planning essential.
Tiber Marina Campground provides the core services needed for an extended stay, focusing on functionality and cleanliness, even when the main marina shop is closed for the season.
- Off-Season Facility Availability: A significant service highlight is that the facilities remain on and available even when the marina is closed for the season, offering year-round utility accessāa rare and valuable feature for Montana campers.
 - Power Hookups: The campground is known to feature power hookups, making it suitable for RVs and trailers needing electrical access.
 - Sanitary Facilities: The site includes access to toilets, and in the main area (often referred to as VFW Park or associated recreation areas), there are typically camp showers available, though users should confirm current operational status.
 - Drinking Water: Potable drinking water is usually available at designated points within the larger recreation area, which Tiber Marina Campground is a part of.
 - Marina Services (Seasonal): During the main season (typically May 1st to October 1st), the adjacent Tiber Marina provides full services, including food, gas, oil, water, showers, bait, tackle, and other amenities applicable to boating operations.
 - RV Dump Station: A trailer/RV sanitary dump station is typically located within the greater Tiber Reservoir recreation area, providing a crucial service for RV users.

The most compelling reasons for a Montanan to visit Tiber Marina Campground are tied directly to its breathtaking natural features and the quality of the fishing it facilitates.
- Spectacular Reservoir Views: The campground offers a great view of Lake Elwell (Tiber Reservoir) and the surrounding expansive Montana landscape, providing an ideal backdrop for relaxation and photography, particularly for the areaās famous spectacular sunsets.
 - Unmatched Quiet and Solitude: Especially when visited off-season, the campground is described as super quiet, with visitors reporting they had the whole place to themselves. This is an invaluable feature for those seeking total escape from city noise.
 - World-Class Walleye Fishing Access: The Tiber Reservoir is renowned among Montana anglers as a walleye powerhouse, also offering excellent fishing for Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout, Ling (Burbot), and Perch. Its reputation for producing monster-sized walleye makes this campground a popular base camp for serious fishing trips.
 - Reasonable Pricing: Guests note that the cost of camping, particularly the sites with available facilities, is very reasonable compared to other developed campgrounds in the state.
 - Spacious and Open Setting: The campground features generally flat terrain with open spaces and often provides ample separation between sites, offering a greater sense of privacy than many congested parks.
 - Boating and Water Sports: The reservoir is massive, making it excellent for boating, water-skiing, swimming, and kayaking during warmer months, with a boat launch nearby for easy access.

The Tiber Marina Campground is an excellent choice for Montanans who prioritize solitude, spectacular views, and world-class fishing access over highly developed amenities. It is especially worth choosing for the following reasons:
It is the perfect spot for the off-season camper seeking total quiet and privacy, benefiting from reasonable rates and the continued functionality of essential facilities (like toilets and water) even when the main marina closes. Nice and quiet, marina already closed for the season. Facilities still on and available very reasonable great view not many here at this time. A bit of a drive to town.
Off season visit and it was great!!! Super quiet and we had the whole place to ourselves.
Wow this is truly a unique home town experience with the most delightful help that makes you feel like grandma's place. Oh and amazing prices for the middle of the wild west. Loved looking at all the pictures of anglers with there trophies in hand.
Plenty of picnic areas and good bathrooms. Keep dogs on a leash. Watch for bears and rattle snakes.
This campground offers good access to Tiber and good services for RVs and boats. However, this place has few trees and lots of wind. No place to keep your boat tied overnight so you will be launching and trailering your boat daily or beaching it somewhere.
