**Introduction / Overview**
For the thousands of dedicated off-road enthusiasts across **Texas**, the **TMTC Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area (BMRA)** near **Gilmer** is not just a campground—it is a legendary adventure destination. This massive, 1,850-acre property, located high atop the Barnwell Mountains of East Texas, is the flagship project of the Texas Motorized Trails Coalition (TMTC), a non-profit organization dedicated to creating and maintaining safe, legal, and exciting motorized off-road recreation spaces. Opened in 2000, BMRA has quickly established itself as one of the premier off-highway vehicle (OHV) parks in the South-Central United States.
While the primary focus of the facility is the extensive trail system designed for 4x4 vehicles (like Jeeps), UTVs, ATVs, and dirt bikes, the campground facilities are comprehensive and essential to the experience. Guests often spend entire weekends at the park, driving, riding, and camping. The ethos here is one of rugged adventure and community spirit. As one highly satisfied customer noted, the experience delivers "one HELL of a time," highlighting the challenging and addictive nature of the terrain. The community aspect is strong, drawing dedicated off-road clubs and families alike who enjoy the thrill of the trails and the camaraderie of fellow motorized recreation advocates.
The park's commitment to quality is evident in its well-maintained trails and spotless facilities. It is a shining example of what dedicated volunteers and a clear vision can achieve for Texas's outdoor recreation landscape. Whether you are a seasoned "rock crawler" or a novice looking for a scenic "Adventure Trail," TMTC Barnwell Mountain Rec provides the infrastructure for a full weekend of pure, motorized delight in the beautiful Piney Woods region.

I went out for a day with my brother-in-law and had one HELL off a time. It was wet the day we went out and the park decided it was a good day to give us HELL! LOL. I now have the bug and want to get my own Jeep. I can see how people get addicted and spend weekends out at the parks. It was just a plain ol good time! I have not been to many other parks so I can say say how this one stacks up or not, But I can say that the staff was super friendly and the bathrooms were well maintained!
Awesome off road park. Good pricing compared to the other parks in Texas as well! A good wide range of trail difficulties, and marked with signage. Town is also not far away.
This is an awesome offroad park. They have trails for every experience level. The people are very friendly and helpful.
Great park for offroading your OHV. Facilities are always being improved. Park allows multiple styles of camping from full hook ups, electric only and primitive spots. Open weekends starting on Fridays. Check their website for events and you can reserve your camping preference in advance.
We absolutley live this place. Very friendly staff say hi to sandra's she's the best👌. Second time going. First time was dry spent 5 hrs out on motorcycles they have every skill level possible from easy to challenging. Second time was very wet didn't eat as much dust spent about 3 hrs. Out had a great time.spent 60 bucks for the whole year membership they have furnished cabins with showers air conditioning and stoves great for friends or family. I gave it 5 stars because alot of places have drunks and trash everywhere this is very clean. Try it out you'll love it and a membership isn't required.
