About an hour and a half from the big city. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL giant cave. With water continually trickling down from the top. Nice easy trail going down to the bottom. On both sides. A must see if you're in the area. I think it was only $7.00 per car. Very reasonable.
The pictures that you see online do not do justice to the grandeur of this national park. We went in early January and it was still absolutely breathtaking. Take your time and look around. There is beauty at every turn. When they say hiking shoes are recommended, they mean it! If you wander down under the bridge, the rocks are slippery and you could easily break an ankle if you're not careful. But it is so worth the trip especially if you need some nature therapy. This will be a return visit for us in the spring and I'm sure in the summer!
The hike was a true adventure, challenging yet incredibly rewarding. Along the winding trail, thoughtfully placed benches provided the perfect spots to catch our breath and soak in the serene beauty of nature. Upon reaching the viewing deck, we were greeted by an awe-inspiring panorama that felt very surreal. The experience was nothing short of magical, leaving us wanting to return again in the future
I came here Valentines weeknd and this was a very beautiful spot for a short hike to enjoy the small creek and see the bridge itself. The Park Rangers are very kind, the hike down to the bridge is easy and takes only 1/4 of a mile so 15-25 minutes to hike all the way down. You do have the option to hike through the cave, wear hiking shoes if you do, it can be very difficult to get through as it gets slippery and wet in that specific area. Other than that you can just enjoy the view and hike back up. Please remember to pick up after yourselves 😃. Pro tip the weekdays are less busy
On our way to jerome, we saw the sign for Tonto Natural Bridge State Park. We decided to take a detour and check it out and I'm so glad we did. The ranger at the lovely little gift shop was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He got us oriented, and explained all the options carefully. We went to all the overlooks and walked down the Gowan Trail. The views are absolutely spectacular. When we got to the bottom, we followed the arrows and were able to go about halfway under the bridge. Just spectacular. Unfortunately, though we were not prepared for this hike and needed better shoes for the slippery wet rocks under the bridge, so decided to head back the way we came. I hope some day we can come back better prepared and do all the trails. Lots of picnic tables here and several restrooms. It's not a huge place, but it is so worth taking the detour and stopping.
