Family Camping Activities for All Ages: Games, Hiking, and Campfire Fun
Explore family camping activities that bring all ages together, from outdoor games and scenic hikes to memorable campfire fun that creates lasting memories.
🌲 Introduction / Overview
Tucked away on the shores of East Lake Ida, Tony's Campground offers a decidedly unique and non-commercial camping experience in the heart of Minnesota's legendary Lakes Country, near Pelican Rapids. Unlike large corporate-managed parks, this is a smaller, locally-owned property that has served as a fixture in the community for many years, providing direct access to one of the region's beautiful bodies of water.
The campground’s identity is intrinsically linked to the spirit of the local community. It is the type of place where long-time locals, like the family whose grandparents had a cabin nearby, feel a personal connection to the setting and the owners, often recalling decades of lake memories. This personal, often rustic, approach to camping is what attracts certain Minnesota users who prefer a quiet, simple retreat over high-end resort amenities.
However, it is important for prospective campers to note that the experience at Tony's Campground is highly variable and depends on individual expectations. While some local users appreciate the familiar, long-standing presence of the owners and the simple lake access, others who expect modern, polished, and standardized facilities consistent with national chain campgrounds have expressed strong negative feedback regarding the state of the facilities and management style. This destination is best suited for experienced campers who value an authentic, rustic, and community-focused atmosphere above all else.

💯 What is Worth Choosing
Tony's Campground is worth choosing for the seasoned Minnesota camper who is highly adaptable, values affordability, and considers direct lake access on a desirable lake (East Lake Ida) to be the number one priority. This destination is emphatically not for the traveler seeking modern, luxury RV resort amenities or a highly structured camping environment.
The core value proposition here is simple: it is an established, no-frills location that provides a foothold on a beautiful, recreational lake in a coveted part of Otter Tail County. For the camper who can overlook potential maintenance or service shortcomings—as indicated by critical reviews—in favor of a personal, quiet, and authentic lake experience, this campground offers a unique connection to the Lakes Country area that larger, more commercial operations cannot match. The friendly, personal history many locals share with Tony and Bernice also provides a rare sense of genuine community that some Minnesota campers actively seek out. If your camping philosophy aligns with rustic simplicity and prioritizing the natural environment over polished facilities, Tony's Campground provides a lakeside escape.

AVOID! I've camped for years, all over the US. I've stayed as some very nice campgrounds, Tony's Campground is not one of them. Far from it! Facilities are subpar, owners are rude and crass. I will never be back. I strongly recommend everyone avoid this campground, you'll be better off ANYWHERE else!
My grandpa and grandma had a cabin at the end of a road on the lake. Right next to the campground. Very nice anx love Tony and Bernice
