In from out of the state... stopped in at the camp ground to say goodbye to friends who were camped. I checked in at the office, told the young man we were only visiting an hour or two. I gave them my plate # and a head count on their check sheet. Then was charged $10 for adults and $4 children. We were there less then 2 hours like I said. I took the high road and did NOT aquire any keep sakes on my way out. The pool was already closed... this was after 7pm. I would understand if we were going to get to use that amenity for the day. If we would have stayed the night with family or friends, they already have rented a spot from you or are you charging campsites by the head. I feel hustled, if manors wouldn't have been compelling me, you wouldn't have received my money. For the reader, for a short visit... my observation was the visitor head count $$ hustle is poorly policed other than what you tell them and there are no check points.
This is an extremely clean, well maintained, wonderful gem of a campground. There are many signs guiding your way to the camp store/office which has just about anything you would need (and many things you don't but still buy anyway). The owners are very meticulous with sensible rules regarding speed limits and quiet hours to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone. Most importantly, they made sure these rules were communicated as well as posted in many visible locations to ensure there were no excuses to not be aware. The roads covering this huge property are gravel but very well maintained (just like everything else) and the seasonal campers that we met were all friendly as well. Weekend crafts and activities along with the vast expanse of well-groomed trails kept everyone busy. While the canoe livery is no longer operational due to many trees down along the river (as I was told), a quick 10-minute drive into town offered a plethora of liveries to pick from. All-in-all, we had a peaceful and relaxing weekend and would strongly recommend anyone traveling in the area to choose Toodik Famly Campground over the "parking-lot-style" commercial campgrounds that surround the area if you want a better outdoors camping experience.
This is camping like we did as kids. You CAN go back in time!! The stars are amazing at night and you can actually see the Milky Way! The owners are fabulous and truly care about this beautiful piece of land! This photo is from the 4th of July on the river in town, quite busy but oh so peaceful! You can rent a canoe at Camp Toodik for much less than the liveries in town. It's a little piece of heaven at this campground!
