This is a super cool often overlooked spot. Short drive down gravel great early season spot. Many cool little spots to walk including bridge over river and foot access to the top of the dam which is getting to be rare.
It's good for a night or two. No shenanigans happening. Mostly fishing people and boaters in and out. The BNSF trains are shuffling around up and down the track. Only heard one in the middle of the night but was not bothersome to me. Reminded me of grandmas' house as a child and the Erie Lakawana screeching around; memories. I didn't have a mosquito problem but at dusk those silly flying bugs formed in mass. Just a nuisance more than anything. Lots of birds and fish jumping around. I am completely content watching pelicans all day.
Only like six campsites, 5 mile gravel dusty road, Dam has lights, so not great for stargazing. Secluded, free, quiet, except for the could train that passes 4 to 6 times/day.
Was a beautiful area, on the Missouri River. But! There’s a train almost every hour that blows it’s horn atleast 5 times directly across the River from you. I’ll also mention there’s no cell signal there.
Road is little rough and camping is only a few spots but nice scenery
