Customer Reviews
I don't normally write reviews but I felt compelled based on the nature of our experience. Short version: They have unqualified people performing electrical work (likely an issue with the state) and it caused us to head home early out of safety concerns/damage to our travel trailer. We are still dealing with issues from the visit. Long version: We stayed here with our travel trailer in late August 2024. We arrived after dark and the host was more than helpful getting us positioned at our spot. The next day we ventured off to Mt St Helens for a little hiking followed by a quick stop at Iron Creek Falls. When we arrived back at camp in the early evening, there was no shore power to the trailer. We checked with the hosts and they were in the middle of a replacing a sub-panel. We proceeded to cook dinner and run off limited power provided by our solar system. Not long after starting to eat dinner, the power came on within the trailer. The lights illuminated and then we heard a number of loud pops from under the cabinets followed by a big puff of smoke billowing out. I got my wife and young son out of the camper immediately and then turned off the shore power breaker. I grabbed my tools and proceeded to check under the cabinets in case I needed to put out a fire. I checked the trailer's electrical panel and any visible connections that I could access. There were no obvious signs of fire damage. Note that I did have a rated surge protector at the shore power hookup. I opened the windows and turned on the exhaust fans to try to clear the smoke from the trailer. When I went to speak with the host, there were about 3-4 people standing around the subpanel looking confused. One person was mentioning that they could measure a live electrical current at their shore power pedestal. One of the employees mentioned that they had changed out the subpanel with a spare and showed on the old one where it had shorted out and had burn marks on it. They then proceeded to show how the earth ground was hot and touched it getting a shock in the process. I went back to my trailer and grabbed a multimeter to help assess the issue. At this point, the one employee who swapped out the subpanel stated multiple times that they were not an electrician and really did not know how to use a multimeter (same person who got shocked earlier). I did a few basic checks and was seeing power on the downstream side of open breakers, 120V breakers with 240V supplied, and a few other concerning issues. I tried to assist for a little while to understand the cause of the issue, but I'm no electrician myself. After a while it dawned on me that the issue was not going to be resolved and I also did not fully understand the damage done to my trailer. Without shore power, I couldn't run A/C and our trailer was sitting around 90F on the inside. I spoke with my wife and we both decided that we did not feel safe powering up the trailer and felt that it would be difficult trying to sleep in such hot conditions. We spoke to the host and expressed our safety concerns and that we were going to opt to pack up and head home. They were extremely apologetic and refunded us for the night. We proceeded to pack up and started heading home around 9:30pm. We made it back home to the Tri-Cities at almost 2:30am after having to deal with detours around Rimrock Lake and other various construction delays. We took our trailer to Blue Compass where we purchased it and they ran various diagnostics. They determined that the power converter was damaged and replaced it. By the time it was repaired, camping season pretty much finished and we proceeded to winterize the trailer. Just recently (March 2025), we took the trailer out for the first trip, post-repair. Everything seems to be working fine but we realized our fridge has power but is not cooling. Now I will be contacting my RV dealer once again to assess issues.
Amazing rv/tent/ how ever you enjoy to camp place not to far from the nearest town the owner is a very sweet lady who has a great personality! There are bunny's running around and a beautiful pond that you can't fish right now, but maybe one day it will come back. A huge amount of space tables all over and fires are aloud when there is no fire ban. All in all, if you have an itch to camp at a beautiful campground, give it a try!
