Situated right on the shores of beautiful American Lake, Travel Camp offers stunning lake views for its visitors. Despite being described as "fairly packed in," it is surprisingly quiet, offering a peaceful environment for your stay. The campground accommodates both RVs and tent camping, making it a versatile option for different types of campers.
One of the key features of Travel Camp is its location directly on American Lake, providing opportunities for lakeside enjoyment. It is also noted to be very reasonable in price, making it an attractive option for those looking for an affordable local getaway. For individuals with access to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, its convenient location can be a significant advantage, especially for visiting family stationed in the area.
However, there are a couple of points to consider. One reviewer mentioned that the road setup within the campground is a little unusual for RVs, potentially making navigation to and from sites somewhat winding and frustrating. Additionally, another visitor noted that the maintenance on the lots between visitors might be minimal, although their specific site was acceptable. This was the primary reason for a slightly lower rating.
Despite these minor drawbacks, Travel Camp is generally viewed positively, particularly for its beautiful lakefront location, quiet atmosphere, and reasonable pricing. If you have access to Joint Base Lewis-McChord and are looking for a local camping or RV spot right on American Lake, Travel Camp is definitely worth considering for a relaxing and scenic getaway.

Customer Reviews
Fairly packed in, but surprisingly quiet. The way the road is set up is a little weird for RVs, and a little frustrating to have to drive a fully winding road to get to your RV or to get out of the camp area. Beautiful view of the lake.
Stayed here to be close to family in the area. In fact our daughter and family camped in the spot next to us. Beautiful little RV park and tent camping right on American Lake. Very reasonable and quiet. Will definitely stay there again. If you can access the gate and need something in that area give it a shot. Only downside for us is they don’t really do much maintenance on the lots in between visitors but ours was ok. I would’ve given 5 stars except for that.
Very nice place to camp. Most spaces are full hookups, there are cabins, tent areas, and laundry areas. Its right next to the MWR rental facility, its on base and secure, and the spots are easy in and out... i have a 40 ft Class A and had no troubles. Cost is a little higher than most for a FamCamp...but, still much better than a commercial site. I will be back here again
Nice camp ground along American Lake for trailers and tents. Cabins are also available with different rooms sizes from studio to I believe 2 bedrooms. Be sure to reserve in advance during summer, it can be as busy as any other popular camp ground. Only downside side for the cabins is the lack of AC units; however, fans are available and builtin space heaters for the cooler seasons.
Nice campground, we’re in site 208 for 3 nights and although it looks small, we have some space from other sites so it’s a great location. $1 for laundry, lots of recreational rentals, cabins on lake, good place for families. Lucky to get on short notice, thank you!
