Trothwood Forest Introduce
Trothwood Forest, a distinctive and highly-rated destination within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category, offers a unique and intimate outdoor experience in McArthur, Ohio. This family-owned, 43-acre property, nearly all wooded, stands apart by prioritizing privacy, seclusion, and a deep connection with nature. Unlike bustling commercial campgrounds, Trothwood Forest is minimally developed, ensuring a truly natural and tranquil escape for individuals, families, small groups, and even those seeking a location for quiet retreats. It's a place designed for unwinding, reflecting, and enjoying the peacefulness of the forest, all while being conveniently located near the renowned Hocking Hills area.
The environment of Trothwood Forest is its most compelling feature, meticulously maintained to preserve its natural beauty and provide a sense of remote serenity. The property is characterized by towering trees, including pines, which contribute to a calming atmosphere where campers can hear the wind whispering through the branches, creating a natural lullaby. The campsites are intentionally spread out across the property, ensuring that each site feels remote and private, a significant improvement over traditional campgrounds where sites are often closely packed. This design helps to keep the privacy level high and the impact on the forest low, fostering an ideal setting to disconnect from the world and meditate. The property features a small pond, which attracts local wildlife such as frogs and deer, providing opportunities for nature observation, especially in the evenings. The terrain is rolling, with established trails winding through the wooded hills and hollows. The deliberate lack of excessive development allows the forest to remain clean and as natural as possible, offering a genuine immersion in the wilderness. Due to the minimal light pollution, the night skies at Trothwood Forest are exceptionally dark, offering fantastic opportunities for stargazing, particularly from open areas like the "Field Crest" site.
As a dedicated offering within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, Trothwood Forest provides focused services designed to enhance a rustic yet comfortable camping experience. The campground offers a limited number of tent sites, ensuring privacy and minimizing overcrowding. These established sites, such as "Whispering Pines," "Deep Wood," "Field Crest," and "Addy Shelter," each come equipped with a fire ring, making it easy for campers to enjoy traditional campfires. The "Addy Shelter" site uniquely includes a structure with a raised, slightly sloped platform, providing protection from the elements and keeping gear dry and elevated off the ground. While primarily a tent camping destination, Trothwood Forest also offers a small, off-grid cabin (currently used by owners but with potential for future rental) that provides a more weatherproof shelter with a woodstove. Though full hookups are not available for RVs, dual-purpose or adventure motorcycles are explicitly welcome and can even ride directly to the campsites, a unique service for touring riders. A solar/fire-heated shower is available near the flagpole, offering a refreshing amenity during warmer months, though users are advised to test the water temperature before use. A porta-potty is conveniently located near the parking area, providing a basic but essential restroom facility. Potable water is also available on the property. For ease of transport to sites that might be a short walk from parking, a hand-pulled wagon is provided. Firewood can be purchased on-site, ensuring a ready supply for campfires. The property also has cell service, a convenient feature for those who wish to stay connected despite the secluded environment.
The features of Trothwood Forest are carefully curated to promote relaxation, outdoor exploration, and a sense of peaceful detachment. The key feature is the high degree of privacy offered by the widely spaced campsites, making it perfect for individual, family, or small group getaways, and even group retreats for small companies or clubs. The property boasts an expanding network of hiking trails, making it easy to explore the 43 acres of diverse wooded terrain. Specific sites cater to different preferences; "Whispering Pines" is ideal for hammock and tent camping, known for its tranquil sounds of frogs and approaching deer. "Deep Wood" offers even more seclusion, nestled next to a large fallen tree with a bench seat. "Field Crest," near the front of the property, is suitable for larger groups and offers excellent morning views and stargazing opportunities. The "Addy Shelter" provides a lean-to structure for added weather protection. The property's commitment to minimal development ensures that the natural environment remains the primary attraction. For those interested in self-sustainability, the presence of 20+ fruit trees and bushes, which will eventually yield fruit for campers, is a unique feature. The ability to ride dual-purpose motorcycles directly to campsites adds a distinct appeal for adventure riders. The park encourages activities like forest bathing and meditation, leveraging the natural tranquility for mental well-being, aligning with the "3-day effect" often associated with camping's health benefits.
Promotional information for Trothwood Forest consistently highlights its unique selling points: seclusion, natural beauty, and proximity to major attractions without the crowds. The tagline often emphasizes "disconnect from the world" and "unwind and relax." The campground promotes its availability for various group sizes, from individuals to small company retreats. Pricing is presented as "very affordable for quick and easy getaways," encouraging accessibility. The convenience of its location, just minutes from the small town of McArthur for supplies and a short drive (17-20 minutes) to popular Hocking Hills attractions like Ash Cave and Old Man's Cave, is a significant draw. It positions itself as an ideal "basecamp for exploring the Hocking Hills area." The property also highlights its connection to "Trothwood Forest Coffee," suggesting a local brand affiliation that might appeal to coffee lovers. The official website and platforms like Hipcamp are used for reservations, with clear instructions for parking and accessing campsites. The pet-friendly policy, with dogs allowed off-leash at some sites (though caution is advised regarding wildlife), is a strong promotional point for travelers with pets. The inclusion of amenities like the solar/fire-heated shower and cell service, while maintaining a primitive feel, addresses comfort concerns for those accustomed to modern conveniences. The emphasis on clean, natural, and minimally impacted surroundings, combined with opportunities for hiking, stargazing, and quiet reflection, makes Trothwood Forest an attractive option for those seeking a peaceful and authentic outdoor experience in Ohio.

Customer Reviews
Never stayed. I'm just trying to up the rating bc I hate false reviews like the latest one. Hipcamp shows a 98% rating with almost 50 reviews, so these reviews don't do this place justice. Pics seem like it's a great place. Also, one review says cell service. Can't beat that. Wishing you all the success! :)
