Trout Pond Campground

The campgrounds were clean and well maintained. The bathrooms had hot water for showering. The parking pads are level with good drainage and each space comes with a fire pit and grill grate plus a camp bench. There are a lot of trails right off the grounds with some nice views (photos attached). NOTE: There is no firewood for sale on-site, but you can get local wood just off the road before turning at the Trout Pond sign.

Deeply secluded off a forested path, you'll come across this hidden gem. It's well worth the trek to take in its beauty. If you do decide to make the hike, understand that this isn't an easy place to bring your canoe or kayak. However, if you do, you'll be able to enjoy the incredible privacy of this pristine body of water.

Nothing says "Welcome" like inappropriate flags flying... not from an independent camper... NO, this was CAMP HOSTS! The camp host also had a dog that barked almost non-stop the entire time during our 4 night stay. Host also decided that everyone wanted to hear John Denver's "Country Roads" song...blasting it out on at least 2 evenings. Who's supervising these "Employees"... they seemed to be the only ones breaking the campground rules. Also the season was supposed to end on October 28th... they waited until less than a week prior to notify us that they decided to close 1 day early and that I had to modify my reservations... not only at this campground... but thankfully I was able to add a day to the next campground... please , if you have season dates... stick to them, 1 day closing early wouldn't have made a difference... but could have ruined our plans made months in advance. The sites were mostly sloped and not so level, no water at the sites, so you have to fill before you get to the campground or fill at a few spigots along the roadway. This is one of the few Rec.gov campgrounds that don't have 50 amp power. Web says only "15 amp" but our site actually had 30 amp also.... so please, you should update the website. No mater which road you come to this park from, they are winding, hilly and very narrow, so be prepared and as many of these parks there's no cell service/data for navigation, so dont get lost. I will definitely try to avoid staying here in the future.

This was our first camping trip as a family and the first my wife and I have had since having our second child. Overall the experience was great. Having a flush toilet, shower, and very nice pads in a spot where you're completely disconnected from technology and screens was great. The weather could have cooperated a little better, but we had an excellent time and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice outdoor getaway.

Great campground, walkable to a small lake. There are plenty of hiking trails from the campgrounds. There isn't any cell service, so bring a book. You can buy wood down the road. We see a couple of wood shed where you can pick up what you might need for a couple of bucks. As for wildlife, we saw mostly birds, there was also a young bear that wandered into the campground during the evening and was chased away by a couple of campers. *** The hike up to the lookout on the people trail is difficult, it's all up hill for the thirty minute walk. The view is worth it, it just may not be suitable for young children.

The George Washington and Jefferson National Forests are stunning, and Trout Pond Campground is wonderfully located within all that natural beauty. However, if you’re hoping for mountain views right from the campground, you might find it a bit disappointing, as the immediate surroundings are mostly forested. I really enjoyed the Trout Pond Trail — it’s an easy, beautiful hike surrounded by lush green trees, perfect for a peaceful walk. One important tip: don't underestimate the rain in this area. During one visit, we got caught in a severe downpour with extremely poor visibility on the winding mountain roads. After waiting for nearly an hour for the weather to clear, we had to turn back for safety. Overall, it’s a lovely campground if you’re looking for tranquility and easy nature walks — just be prepared for sudden weather changes!

Alexander, I feel bad for you for multiple reasons, but mainly because you fail to understand America's freedoms. Leave our country. You aren't welcome here. Nevermind how clean and safe they keep the camp ground, let's focus on a flag and a peaceful song that is not offensive in any kind of way and was written about the State you're camping in that brings you joy and try projecting those things as something "scary" or "horrible".. you must not camp much, honestly.
