Beautiful spot in an oasis among lots of burned areas. We got a great spot with lots of room for a tent and a screen tent. The creek was right there for the kids to play in. My only complaint is that the tent pad is solid rock under the initial gravel layer. We bent several stakes trying to get the tent secured.
We stayed here at site #6 for one night while riding hwy 14 on our motorcycle trip. Nice quiet campground with that classic Colorado camping feel. Nice bathrooms. Place was very clean. I didn’t notice any trash cans and we just packed ours out. The 6.4 miles of dirt road was in great shape. Would definitely stay here again.
Stayed on a weeknight during fall color season. It was super nice to have the bridge over the creek to connect to the West Branch trail where aspens are plentiful in the first mile. (Although the bridge could use a little TLC) We almost had the place to ourselves, But I could see this being less relaxing if every site was full. I'd like to extend special recognition to the camp host for making the bathrooms some of the cleanest we've seen in the state of Colorado! Hats off!
Tunnel is our favorite campground in the upper Poudre River Canyon area. The West Branch Trail is conveniently located nearby with a branch trail leading to it from the campground. The campground is a perfect base-camp for day-hike exploring of the Rawah Wilderness area to the west. The campground is well-managed by a resident host. No reservations are taken for it, so, because It can get very busy on summer weekends, get there early or camp mid-week.
I have been going here my entire life! Best camping spot I’ve ever been to! Tons of fun trails, lakes, and rivers, to visit very close. I almost didn’t want to write this review because I don’t want more people knowing about it! Great times
