We decided to visit last minute during Thanksgiving weekend and weren’t sure if we’d even get a site, but we ended up with one of the best spots, in my opinion. We got lucky when another family moved their RV because they needed full hookups, and our site only had electricity, which worked perfectly for us. Our spot was spacious, being on a corner with neighbors only on one side. As we drove through the park, we noticed that most sites were quite small and tight for RVs, especially since it was October and most people were in RVs rather than tents. We felt fortunate to have found such a great spot. The location was ideal, just 10 minutes from downtown Banff, with a scenic mountain drive and incredible views. We’d definitely stay here again if we pass through.
The staff was extremely unfriendly. It wasn’t just one person, but multiple staff members who were unkind, making both me and my friend feel the same sense of discomfort. This definitely needs improvement. Everyone seemed to be overwhelmed by arrogance. This is not the same as having pride in managing a national park. Pride should not turn into arrogance. You should know that it is possible to be both proud and friendly. Due to the shower facilities being under repair, there was no alternative provided. The campsite area for tents was very cramped, and it felt like it was mostly set up for RVs. Banff itself was wonderful, but the accommodation was quite disappointing.
Average campground located reasonably close to town. Long walk and mostly uphill on the way back but conveniently serviced by the local bus. Sites are more like a concrete driveway next to a picnic table. No privacy. The most disappointing aspect is no showers, only washrooms. Apparently this has gone on for over two years which I find ridiculous. Surely Parks Canada could put temporary shower blocks in place while they figure out what to do with the existing asbestos filled shower rooms? The amount of visitors this campground accommodates would surely justify a very quick rectification of the issue. If you want a shower and you don’t have one in your RV, you need to shower at the Banff Rec Centre for $6 per person, per shower or visit the hot springs at $13 per entry. Not good enough Parks Canada, very disappointing!
Old self reservation doesn't work. I arrived at 2 am picked a vacant site at 10:30 I go and pay for my site and want two more days but I have to move. No problem, that night so me one is parked in my site and won't move. I knock on the camper loud no answer. I turn around and come back knock again no answer. I park two stalls over and after 10 minutes I go back and know again, this time the blinds are closed and I'm not with my truck and in a different jacket. They 35ish woman answers and says she booked it. I said its not a booking is you write the sight on the paper. I actually booked it because I ‘resereved’ it in person, where they see what sites are booked. So I’M reserved, two days. After called dispatch twice that guy doesn't care ‘call 911’ . Two RCMP show up for a minor issue, when the Warden don’t work nights (11:15pm). I think the best administration solution is a computer at the kiosk. For those without a mobile to reserve only for drop in campers. No issues with people self registering when they can't because its booked or their self reservation is entered in too late. Parks Canada must fix this problem when its an internationally renowned national Park.
Nice campground with a great location for exploring Banff and Lake Louise. There is a bus stop right by the campground and you can easily get into town. The showers were out of order/under construction, but we were informed about this when we booked the campground.
