Turkey Creek Park Introduce
Hey there, fellow Mississippians! If you're looking for a delightful escape into nature that offers both tranquility and family fun, then Turkey Creek Park in Decatur, MS, is a gem you need to explore. Nestled peacefully in the woods of Newton County, this charming campground provides a welcoming atmosphere for RVers and tent campers alike, all set against the backdrop of a beautiful 250-acre lake. It's the perfect spot to unwind, enjoy outdoor activities, and create lasting memories right here in our home state.
Turkey Creek Park isn't just a place to park your RV or pitch a tent; it's a destination where you can truly connect with Mississippi's natural beauty. Many visitors describe it as a "very quaint, very nice park," appreciated for its quiet, secluded setting. This makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a peaceful retreat, away from the hustle and bustle of busier roads. While it's noted as being "miles away from Interstate 20," this distance is often seen as a benefit, contributing to its serene environment and making it "very quiet." It's "worth the distance from Interstate 20" for the calm it provides.
One of the standout features of Turkey Creek Park, as highlighted by a delighted visitor, is its ability to host "fantastic events." Imagine celebrating Independence Day with your family, enjoying a "truly spectacular" fireworks display that leaves everyone "beaming with delight!" This speaks to the park's capacity for fostering community and creating special moments, going beyond just offering a place to stay. It shows that Turkey Creek Park is more than just a campground; it’s a venue for cherished experiences.
The campsites themselves are well-appointed, with reviewers noting features like "a nice site with a cement picnic table, a large tent pad, a fire ring and a stand up grill," all "nestled in the woods." This level of detail suggests a comfortable and well-maintained camping experience, whether you're bringing a large RV or prefer traditional tent camping. With a mix of "back in" and "pull throughs" sites, the park accommodates various camping setups, and the flexibility of being able to "get a site without a reservation" and "no minimum stay" offers convenience for spontaneous trips or quick overnight stops while traveling through our state. While some might question if it's a "good multi-day or vacation campground in terms of hiking trails and things to do," its peaceful atmosphere and potential for lake activities certainly make it appealing for a longer, relaxing stay focused on quiet enjoyment rather than extensive adventuring.
Turkey Creek Park is conveniently situated at 142 Parkway Dr, Decatur, MS 39327, USA. This address places it within Newton County, in the east-central part of Mississippi. The park is managed as part of the Pat Harrison Waterway District, which oversees several water parks and recreational areas across the state.
The accessibility of Turkey Creek Park is generally good, although it requires a short drive off the main interstates to reach its serene location. It is "miles away from Interstate 20," meaning you'll exit I-20 and follow state or local roads to get there. One reviewer noted "one bridge with 5 ton limit" on one approach (Midway Church Road), so it's always advisable for larger RVs to follow signs from "exit 115" or consult with the park directly for the best routes to avoid any limitations. This ensures a smooth journey, particularly for those with heavy rigs.
While it's a quiet retreat, Turkey Creek Park is not excessively remote. It's close enough to Decatur for basic supplies, and a Walmart Supercenter is approximately 10 miles away, providing convenient access to groceries and other necessities for your camping trip. The drive from Jackson, MS, typically takes around 1 hour and 5 minutes, making it a feasible weekend getaway for many Mississippians. Similarly, it's about 1 hour 35 minutes from Hattiesburg, and just over 2 hours from Mobile, AL, or Tuscaloosa, AL, making it a viable option for visitors from neighboring states as well, looking to experience Mississippi's charm. The relative ease of access combined with its peaceful, off-the-beaten-path feel makes Turkey Creek Park a truly accessible escape.

Customer Reviews
We celebrated Independence Day in style at their fantastic event! Sharing it with family made it even more special. The fireworks display was truly spectacular - a perfect way to commemorate the occasion. A wonderful experience that left us beaming with delight!
We stayed one night as we’re traveling through Mississippi. It’s a very quaint, very nice park. Most sites are back in but a few pull throughs which is what we had. I can’t review the restrooms or facilities as we didn’t use any of them. Our site was nice with a cement picnic table, a large tent pad, a fire ring and a stand up grill. It’s all nestled in the woods. We were able to get a site without a reservation and there’s no minimum stay. I don’t know if it’s a good multi-day or vacation campground in terms of hiking trails and things to do, but it was great for a day or two. It’s miles away from Interstate 20 or any busy roads, so it’s very quiet. Worth the distance from Interstate 20.
Super friendly staff and very remote and woodsy feeling. Secluded enough that you can sit back and enjoy nature. Just wish they would work on their beachfront a little
Scenic park. Lake stocked with bass. Bunkhouse style cabins and larger available. Camping,Rv locations available. Only downside was lakeside is difficult to access steep terrain and distance for those of us getting up in age.
Had a terrific time at the July 4th celebration. If you haven’t been, it’s worth it. Parking can be a little tricky and I would suggest bringing your own snacks and drinks because the lines are so long. Also make sure you bring chairs, blankets, and maybe a tent. Lots of activities for the kids.
