Absolutely stunning place, very beautiful. Not a lot of camp spots but we managed to grab the last one. Definitely recommend an SUV or high clearance car (like a Subaru) to make it up the FS road as it was quite chunky with some good sized holes and ruts. Only reason why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is because of the AWFUL flies - we were completely swarmed the entire day. SO MANY FLIES. Deer flies, horse flies, little flies, bees, and other winged insects. It was absolutely wild how many flies were up there. I was completely chewed up by nightfall. They went away around 7 PM and we could finally eat dinner without being THE dinner.

The dirt road up to this place is not bad at all, maybe a couple of the last turns can get a little tricky. But other than that a high clearance 2WD can easily make it. (weather permitting) My wife and I had tried to make it up here last year in early July and the lakes were barricaded by snow... this time around in early August, the road was completely bare. When we arrived late at night the campsites were all taken. Luckily by 9am most spots opened up along with the one we snagged, right along the water! The day progressed into a beautiful Hot sunny day. Perfect to float in some inner tubes, even in the Cold water! All day we relaxed on the water, looking up at Winchester Mountain. Thinking there's no way we're going to hike up to the Lookout in this heat! OH AND BE WARNED, LOTS AND LOTS OF FLIES... EVERYWHERE!! (The only reason I gave this majestic place 4 out 5 stars!) As the sun started to drop over the mountains. We geared up to make the 2.1 mile trek. As we ascended we realized that the trail was not as daunting as it seemed floating on the lake! We made it to top with minutes to spare as we watched the sun set over the horizon! What a Spectacular panoramic view it was! This Campground at Twin Lakes has become a Top Favorite on our list.

Great spot for camping with hiking trails you can access right from the lakes. The camping spots are walk in, we had a rooftop tent and although we found a spot off to the side it would be nicer if there were drive-in sites. Didn't find the flies too bad, the mornings were bogged in with some cloud cover but burned off in the afternoon. Lakes were cold but refreshing. The fsr road up is quite narrow and a fair few potholes/small ditches, wouldn't recommend in a sedan.

Beautiful lakes, there a abandoned fire look out attop of Winchester mountain first come first serve camping . The road up is not to bad till the last couple turns you'll need a 4x4 in the winter. Worth the trip!

Question? What FS road number is this and can you pitch a tent next to the lake? Is this bear country? I'm disabled so no hiking. Car access info appreciated. Thank you.

I know this isn't a review but I'm trying to exhaust every outlet. Yesterday 5.11.25 I was in a roll over accident just passed the Twin Lakes Campground entrance in Lincoln County. My friend and I were taken to different hospitals but my dog Ditto is still missing. He left the scene after we crashed. If you have any information please PM message me!!! Please share so I can find my baby boy. Please. Thank you. Chihuahua Dachshund 5.5 years old, approx 10lbs black head and white body with big spots the same color as his head. He has no collar on but he knows his name.
