> Twin Redwoods Trail Camp is about two miles from the coast. You need a reservation and spots are first come first served. Many use Twin Redwoods as a final stop on the Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail, but you can also park in a lot near the coast and hike/bike in from Hwy 1. Your permit should specify that it includes one parking permit. Additional cars still need to display a copy of your camping permit and they need to pay an extra $10. Fires are not allowed. There is no drinking water available but you can hike an easy two miles to the parking lot where there's a spigot if need be. There are no tables. Bear boxes are available. Note that Site #1 has a bear box with an angled top. I mention this because I tend to use bear boxes as a counter to stage cooking and the slanted top makes that impossible. Sounds trivial but it was indeed inconvenient. The rest of the sites have the standard flat-top bear boxes. The creek runs along the campground. During dry weather the place gets a bit dusty. I've been there while a nice breeze flowed through and it was mesmerizing to lie back and stare through the trees toward the sky. Note that Twin Redwoods and Alder are very close together. Just a few minutes walk between the two. In my opinion Twin Redwoods is the superior campsite in terms of privacy, campsite size and tree cover.
Camped here while hiking the Skyline to Sea Trail in early May, and we had the whole camp to ourselves on a Monday night. The time of season was perfect: not too hot during the day, nor too cold at night, and the mosquitos have not yet come out in full force, so it was quite peaceful.
Not a far hike to backpack in. Had some good cleared areas to place tents. Beautiful area with creek nearby. Clean outhouse, garbage and recyclable disposal, and lockbox for food.
Awesome... serene... peaceful....quiet
