Tygart Lake State Park Campground Introduce
Tygart Lake State Park Campground, nestled in the scenic landscapes of Grafton, West Virginia, stands as a premier destination within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category. This campground offers a tranquil escape for those seeking to immerse themselves in nature, whether for a weekend getaway or an extended outdoor adventure. As part of Tygart Lake State Park, it provides a comprehensive range of services and facilities tailored to various camping styles, from traditional tent pitching to comfortable RV stays and even cozy cabin rentals.
The campgroundās environment is defined by its stunning natural setting. Tygart Lake, a 10-mile-long reservoir covering 1,750 acres, is the centerpiece, surrounded by lush northern hardwood forests. The lake's deep, clear waters are ideal for a variety of water activities, while the irregular shoreline creates numerous inlets and backwater areas perfect for exploration by canoe or small fishing boats. The surrounding forest boasts a diverse array of trees, including black cherry, beech, maple, dogwood, and eastern redbud, offering vibrant colors throughout the seasons. Wildlife abounds, with opportunities to observe deer, turkey, and various small game animals, as well as osprey and eagles. The campground itself is situated at the end of the park road, approximately three miles from the park's east entrance, ensuring a sense of seclusion and natural beauty. The serene and quiet atmosphere is frequently praised by visitors, offering a peaceful retreat from daily life.
Tygart Lake State Park Campground provides 36 camping sites. Of these, 10 sites offer 50-amp electric and water hookups, catering specifically to RVs and campers desiring modern conveniences. The remaining sites are designated as non-electric tent sites, appealing to those who prefer a more traditional camping experience. All campsites are equipped with a picnic table and a fire pit, essential for outdoor dining and evening campfires. While full hookup sites (including sewer) are not available at the campground itself, a centrally located dump station is provided for RV waste. It is important for RV users to note that camping units should generally be less than 32 feet in length due to the need for tight turns within the campground. Beyond the campground, the park also offers 11 fully furnished cabins, with some overlooking the lake, providing a more luxurious and comfortable lodging option. These cabins come equipped with full kitchens, bathrooms with showers, central heating and air conditioning, stone fireplaces, and cable television. Additionally, a 20-room lakefront lodge is available, featuring amenities like free Wi-Fi, a full-service restaurant, and some pet-friendly rooms, catering to a broader range of visitor preferences within the park.
The services and features at Tygart Lake State Park Campground are designed to enhance the outdoor experience. A key amenity for all campers is the presence of clean and well-maintained bathhouses with hot showers, providing comfort and convenience after a day of activities. For essential supplies, a camp store is available at the check-in station, where visitors can purchase items like snacks, firewood (often with delivery services), toiletries, and park memorabilia. Free Wi-Fi is accessible, particularly at the RV sites, allowing guests to stay connected. The park emphasizes recreation, with Tygart Lake being a prime spot for boating, fishing, swimming, and even scuba diving. The lake is considered excellent for bass fishing, and also supports walleye, catfish, muskie, crappie, and perch, all sustained through natural reproduction, indicating good water quality. Four boat launching ramps and a public marina are available, offering boat and kayak rentals. For those seeking aquatic fun, the Tygart Adventure Lake, a seasonal attraction, features a large inflatable water park on the lake, complete with obstacles and slides, providing entertainment for families. Lifeguards are on duty at the park's swim beach during operating hours. On land, the park offers five distinct hiking trails varying in difficulty, including the Dogwood Trail, Ridge Trail, Woodland Trail, Lake Trail, and Tygart Dam Trail. These trails lead through the forest, connecting various picnic areas and offering opportunities for wildlife viewing. Geocaching is another popular activity within the park, with numerous hidden caches for treasure hunters to discover. The park also features an 18-hole golf course, picnic areas, and playgrounds, catering to a wide range of interests. Seasonal nature and recreation programs, such as organized hikes, campfires, and educational talks, are also offered, providing opportunities for guests to engage more deeply with the park's natural and cultural heritage. The park's Nature Center offers educational exhibits and activities, further enriching the visitor experience.

Customer Reviews
The grounds are well maintained. The shower although it had no place to lay your things was hot. When we got settled into our spot which was a challenge for us to back into we immediately heard the dogs. They barked all afternoon non-stop. We decided to chance another night because we were going to be out all day. The same thing once we returned they barked up to 10:30 until I fell asleep of exhaustion. The first night appeared to be shirtless drunk drove in after 10 wondering around the unattended store, I hollered if the person was ok and then went and asked something of my neighbor. The second night after ten pm a camper came in making all sorts of noise. They settled quickly but that should not be allowed, is the gate even locked?
Gorgeous camp spot tucked away deep into the park. Tough to park a rig you're towing as the rv spots are back in and it's tight but not impossible. It's quiet and beautiful here. I got in late so the ranger left my pre-ordered firewood at my site. Keep your pups leashed, the trash pandas are pretty active!
