UAW Black Lake Campground Introduce

Hello, fellow Michiganders! If you're searching for a top-tier camping experience that combines the serene beauty of northern Michigan with an impressive array of amenities, then the UAW Black Lake Campground in Onaway is a destination you absolutely need to have on your radar. Often described as a "great campground" with "full hookups" and a "really great hidden place," it offers a unique blend of rustic charm and modern conveniences. Tucked back into the woods by a "nice sized lake," it provides a tranquil escape that's perfect for families, couples, and individuals looking to unwind and connect with nature, all while enjoying some truly exceptional facilities.

What sets UAW Black Lake Campground apart for many of us is its connection to the UAW (United Auto Workers) Family Education Center. This means that while it's a fantastic camping spot for everyone, it offers particularly "very reasonable" rates and "access to all facilities on the property" for union members, past or present. This unique aspect adds a sense of community and pride, especially for those who have contributed to Michigan's rich automotive history. Imagine having access to a swimming pool, a beautiful beach, tennis courts, and even hotel rooms, condos, and villas, all while enjoying the peaceful ambiance of your campsite. It's truly a comprehensive vacation destination wrapped in the beauty of Pure Michigan.

Location and Accessibility

UAW Black Lake Campground is wonderfully situated at an Unnamed Road, Onaway, MI 49765, USA. This places it in the heart of northern Michigan's stunning natural landscape, known for its pristine lakes, dense forests, and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities. While the address might seem a bit unspecific, the campground is part of the larger UAW Black Lake Conference Center property, a well-established and recognized facility just south of the actual Black Lake, which is often referred to as the "Sturgeon Capital of Michigan."

Accessibility to the campground is generally straightforward, typically involving well-maintained state and local roads leading to Onaway. Once you arrive at the UAW Black Lake property, the campground is easily locatable. For those traveling with bicycles, reviewers note that it's a "nice place to cruise around," indicating good internal roads or paths for cycling. It's important for prospective visitors, especially those who are not UAW members, to be aware of the property's unique vehicle policy: generally, only Union-made/American-made vehicles are allowed on the main property. This policy reinforces the UAW's commitment to supporting American industry, a point of pride for many Michiganders. We have been here for years during the 4th of July. Never had any issues until this year (2024). We bring ebikes and escooters to ride around for our VACATION and have been told we can not use them. We spend money to be there, but we can not ride our OUTDOOR TOYS. Keep in mind, in order to go anywhere around the area, the beach, pool, or lobby from the campground, you either walk, shuttle, or ride a bike. The fact that a scooter that goes 8mph is not allowed is ridiculous. The security has gotten so tight as of lately. They circled the campground hourly during the day, making us feel uncomfortable and as if it were like an army camp. We even got told that if we ride anything past 9 p.m., they will confiscate our bikes until we leave. Keep in mind that our bikes had lights that were super visible. On top of all restrictions, they have also removed the rentals for the beach. They used to rent out paddle boards at the beach but have now fired them. All the staff are rude and don't care for you. Do not come here for a vacation. Camp elsewhere.
