I camped here two nights in summer 2024. All sites appear very well cared for. They are spacious and mostly separated from adjacent sites by trees. I had a tent site, with water nearby. There are also RV sites with water and electricity, as well as yurts. Multiple camp hosts help keep things running smoothly. There is a beautiful lake within the park, a short walk from the campground. The titular lighthouse is also a short walk. It is in excellent condition and well worth the guided tour. Tour includes access to the outstanding museum featuring early settlement of the Umpqua River, the challenges to navigation, establishment of the lighthouse and the life boat station here. The upper floor is devoted to local Coast Guard history; it is beautifully done.
I have been to several of the Pacific Northwest lighthouses, but this is probably my favorite because of its easy accessibility. You can drive right up and park directly across the street! If you want to go inside, you need to pay for a tour (currently $8pp), which includes access to the self tour museum. I think the tour is well worth it. The guides are very knowledgeable and make your visit much more interesting. The site was also the home of a Coast Guard station until 1969, so the museum includes lots of historical memorabilia from their time at the site. There is also a gift store on site, which is where you buy tickets for the tours, which usually run every half hour. There are flush toilets in the museum. Dogs are not allowed inside the lighthouse or museum.
The park ranger was friendly and helpful! We did a same-day booking for one night (arrived around 5-6pm and it was no problem). It happened to be Oregon Parks day so we had free camping for the night. The campground was clean and quiet and had nice sites with trees between them for a bit of privacy. The bathrooms and showers were clean. Would stay here again and explore the area a bit more!
Very pretty, a lovely campsite. We stayed over the weekend and it was quiet and peaceful, i don't have the images off of my camera but there were many pretty birds that were really nice to see, and the mile hike around the lake is fun as well. however warning!! the wood they sell does NOT burn well, we ended up driving into reedsport and buying some there. still, 10/10!!
We had a nice little spot that overlooked the lake with water and electric (no sewer hookup and no dump station in the campground, although some sites had sewer). Spot was small and tight, but plenty of room for our lawn chairs (our special lawn chairs were stolen one night). Be sure to check out the lighthouse and especially after dark…mesmerizing and amazing! Never really saw many rangers patrolling the small campground but there were numerous hosts.
