USFS Curly Jack Campground Introduce
Nestled in the heart of California's Siskiyou County, the USFS Curly Jack Campground offers a unique outdoor experience surrounded by rolling hills and low oaks. This picturesque campground provides a mix of camping options, from serene sites to those with more rustic charm. While some campsites are well-maintained, others may show signs of wear, so it's wise to explore your site upon arrival.
The campground is a gateway to outdoor adventures, with easy access to the Klamath River and nearby attractions like Elk Creek, known for its stunning drive and natural beauty. The area offers opportunities for fishing, swimming, hiking, and enjoying nature at its finest.
- Scenic Location: Surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
- Recreational Opportunities: Proximity to rivers and creeks for fishing and swimming, with nearby hiking trails.
- Facilities: Well-maintained composting toilets and a day-use area with picnic facilities.
While the campground offers many positives, there are a few drawbacks to be aware of. The surrounding roads can bring noise from motorbikes and early morning machinery use, which may disturb campers seeking peace. Additionally, some visitors have noted that the campground's status (open or closed) might not always align with online listings, so it's advisable to verify before planning your trip.
Customer feedback highlights both the beauty of the area and the challenges of noise and unpredictability. One visitor described their experience as mostly positive due to the natural surroundings, though they were disappointed by some campsites' condition. Another traveler was let down after finding the gate closed during a planned visit, emphasizing the importance of confirming availability.

Customer Reviews
A mostly beautiful campground with low oaks and rolling mountainous hills around. Campsites are mixed, some nice and some dirty (literal dusty dirt, not forest floor). The nearby Klamath river was muddy due to the dams being removed but we went fishing and cold-dipping at Elk Creek (a beautiful windy drive 20-30 mins away). That was a highlight. The sad part of this campground is the excessive noise from invisible neighbors. With roads wrapping around the campground valley, there were consistent motorbikes revving through, as well as chainsaws before 7:30am on Saturday, wood chippers chomping up wood, and dogs barking through the night. Restrooms were well-kept composting toilets. Nice day-use and picnic area at end of campground.
10-23-24. Not open. Drove from Brookings, OR just to see the gate closed. Website says open. Bummer.
Large sites with multiple tent sites. River access and plenty of shade. Fire pits. Potable water at each site.. Clean and plentiful outhouses. Some road noise.
Its a good place to camp away from the city if u wanna just relax and enjoy nature at its finest and want to swim or go tubing/rafting.
Was all good till Bigfoot showed up and ate all my FOOD!! 🤬 Still gets 5 stars due to majestic beauty.
