The "Valley Forge Campground" sign is deceptive -- it's placed 1.5 miles away and the trail was very overgrown. I recommend the fire road if you're a casual hiker like myself, cuz we took that back up. It's very exposed so be prepared. Vault toilets were decent. Lots of flowing water you can filter, we did that with out platypus gravity system and were fine. Refreshing! Wildlife were mostly squirrels and butterflies, but bring the deet for dusk til dawn. Poodle dog bushes are abundant along the trail so be warned and wear long sleeves/pants.
I was there in 1970 with troop 38 from San Fernando CA on a memorial weekend ! this trip I have never forgotten. This is a great camp I was last there in the 1990s with my own scout troop a lot had changed since 1970 it is still a great camp.
