  • "My Wife and I camped here for the first time in July 2024. It was magical! We stayed 3 nights and wished we could stay another week! The drive from Lake Huntington was brutal! We drove a 2024 RAV4 AWD loaded to the max and we did fine. Next time we plan on having a 4Runner for clearance and storage space. We had cloudless days and warm temps. We didn't encounter any bears or chipmunks (that we saw) The water was crystal clear and the beaches were beautiful white sands."
  • "I love this campground but the mixed reviews here aren't for nothing; the lake isn't always there and some of the campsites are not level. I would hate to stay at about half the sites in the camp. The drive isn't bad, I've seen Teslas at the campsites here, but roads are narrow and does take a long time to get to and that's even after you've passed the more accessible lower lakes that are part of this reservoir system. My advice is do everything you can to try and find out what the water level is, especially if you plan on coming peak summer because otherwise it will be hot and dry. Being close to Mono Hot Springs and other stuff is a nice perk though, and when the weather and lake are in full effect here, it is quite magical."

Visiting Vermillion Campground is an excellent choice for those seeking adventure and relaxation. With its beautiful surroundings and proximity to unique attractions, it's a destination that offers something for everyone. Remember to plan your visit carefully by checking water levels and road conditions beforehand to ensure the best experience.

Vermillion was the perfect camp for relaxing and day hiking. The camp host, Robert, is friendly and knowledgeable. He gave me great advice on the perfect hike to Devil's Bathtub. The reasons for the 4 star rating, the bear box is the perfect size for a medium cooler, I was alone, so it didn't matter. If friends or family had come it would've been to small. The other issue is Lake Thomas Edison is only at 35% capacity. So my lake side campsite was not close to the lake. You must stop at VVR and order the cheeseburger with coleslaw. Delicious.

Such a beautiful, remote area. The site we had had almost no shade so it got quite warm, but otherwise was great. Lots of bear activity, with some very brave bears, but just make sure you lock up your food. The lake was very low so the campground wasn’t next to the water, but we went on a hike and found an amazing beach (that would normally be underwater) to hang out on with no one else there. In terms of the road, I drive a tiny 2-door Toyota Yaris loaded up with a roof bag, and it was just fine. It’s paved the entire way with plenty of turnouts. So if you come across another car, everyone is good about pulling over to let one another pass. You just have to pay attention and not bomb around curves in the road. Plus the views are stunning. The Vermilion Valley resort next door is a gem with plenty of cold beer, food, and interesting people. We had a great time, thanks!

Great campgrounds and location is amazing. Sites are very spacious and clean. Very few sites are sloped and rockey. Camp store/restaurant has fantastic meal options. A little out of the way and road conditions are questionable, but worth the drive. Road isn't too friendly to small cars, but I did see a few Accords and Camry's, but be prepared to do some damage to your suspension.
