Veterans Memorial Campground, with its scenic riverside location, has a history of providing enjoyable outdoor experiences. Many campers have consistently appreciated its beautiful setting and well-maintained grounds, making it a reliable choice for a quick overnight stop on a road trip or a longer, relaxing stay. While recent feedback suggests a shift towards stricter enforcement of rules, which has caused some disappointment for long-time visitors, the core elements of a clean and easily navigable campground persist, contributing to its ongoing popularity among those who prioritize a well-kept environment.

Location and Accessibility

Veterans Memorial Campground is conveniently located at N4668 County Rd VP, West Salem, WI 54669, USA. This position places it in the beautiful landscape of La Crosse County, just a short drive from the charming town of West Salem and within easy reach of the larger city of La Crosse. Its proximity to major roadways ensures straightforward access for campers traveling from various parts of Wisconsin and beyond.

The campground’s location right on the river is a significant draw, offering picturesque views and direct access to water activities. While specific details on the river are not provided, a riverside location typically implies opportunities for fishing, paddling, or simply enjoying the serene sounds of flowing water. The ease of finding and navigating to the campground, as noted by visitors, adds to its convenience, allowing campers to quickly settle in and begin their outdoor adventure. This balance of natural beauty and practical accessibility makes Veterans Memorial Campground a viable option for those looking for a quick getaway or a peaceful retreat in Western Wisconsin.

Services Offered

While explicit details on every service offered at Veterans Memorial Campground are not extensively detailed in the provided information, general expectations for a campground of this nature, combined with direct observations, suggest a range of fundamental amenities and services for campers.

  • Campsites for Various Rigs: The campground is designed to accommodate different types of camping setups. While specific hookup details (e.g., electric, water, sewer) are not provided, the ability to "set up our camper" implies availability for RVs, and a mention of a "kids' tent" suggests tent camping is also supported.
  • Clean Facilities: A positive highlight from customer feedback is that the campground is described as "clean." This typically extends to shared facilities such as restrooms and potentially shower houses, which are crucial for a comfortable camping experience.
  • Navigable Grounds: Visitors have noted that the campground is "easy to find and navigate," indicating well-organized layouts and clear pathways, which contribute to a stress-free setup and stay.
  • Visitor Parking (with considerations): Historically, there has been an understanding of visitor parking. However, recent experiences indicate that rules regarding extra vehicles, including those of visitors, have become stricter, with campers being directed to move vehicles out of the campground if not adhering to new or more rigidly enforced policies. It is advisable to inquire about current visitor parking rules.
  • Site Parking Guidelines: Similarly, there are specific guidelines, which appear to be new or more strictly enforced, regarding how campers must park their vehicles and campers on individual sites. Campers should be prepared for potential adjustments to their usual setup.
  • Tent Sticker Requirement (New Rule): A recent change or stricter enforcement indicates that "kids' tents" (and likely all tents) now require a sticker, which may need to be obtained at check-in. This is a new procedural element for some long-time campers.

Prospective campers are highly encouraged to contact the campground directly to confirm current rules and available amenities, especially concerning vehicle parking, visitor policies, and tent requirements, to ensure a smooth and pleasant experience.

Disappointed After Years of Great Experiences I’ve been camping at this campground for many years and have always had a great experience—until this year. Unfortunately, this trip was frustrating and disappointing from the start. After checking into our site and setting up our camper (the same way we always have), we were abruptly told we had to move it because it wasn’t parked “correctly.” This was confusing since we’ve never had this issue before. Our group had reserved three sites, and we brought an extra car, as we’ve done in the past. This time, however, we were told we couldn’t use the visitor parking and had to move the car completely out of the campground. No clear reason was given, and it felt unnecessarily strict. To top it off, we were told the cars on our site were parked incorrectly (again, no issue in previous years), finally, someone yelled at us over a kids' tent that didn’t have a sticker—something we’ve never been told was required before nor were we given one at check in when we said we were setting up a kids tent. I understand rules can change, but the way everything was handled felt excessive and unwelcoming. It was disappointing to feel treated like we were doing everything wrong, despite years of being respectful, rule-abiding campers here. I hope management reconsiders how they communicate with guests and handles site issues more reasonably in the future. Sadly, this may be our last year camping here.

This was a quick overnight stay for us while on a road trip. Nice campground, easy to find and navigate. Wished we could have stayed longer being right on the river. Lovely place and clean!

Veteran's Memorial Campground Not a good experience. The reviews sounded good and location was convenient, but our stay was sub-standard, especially for the cost of nearly $50. The staff was not very attentive nor very helpful. The site was a pull-through and VERY unlevel. When my husband went up to the office to ask about the Wi-Fi password (which was not given on our arrival, and ultimately didn't work anyway) and said something about the very unlevel site, the employees response was "yeah, but you're only staying one night." ??? So we assume this is the way they treat people who are passing through?? Not acceptable in our opinion and we do not recommend this place. We would not stay again

This is a campground, not a hotel. Very nice place near water, bike, walk & dog walking trails. Close to racetrack & shopping.

If it is rainy out, you may sink bigger rigs into the mud. Sites not level, water is very rusty, small sites. Tons of speed bumps getting to the campground. We needed help with the 50amp plug & never got it. Had someone look at it, but never fixed it. Had to run on 30amp & limit use of air conditioner, could only run 1.
