I spent a few days in the campground. There is 8 FHU sites with a picnic table, bbq grill and shade. There is 4 spots with Electric only on the side road of the kids playground . There’s a bathroom with 3 stalls and 1 shower. It was quiet at night. It got very windy and you can hear some explosions but not super loud. I enjoyed my time there. Dogs must be on leash. For military or affiliated only

What a great find!! This RV park is on the White Sands Missile Range and has an amazing view of the mountains. Call ahead as most of the full hooks sites are used by contractors work on base. This is a military installation so a military ID is required. Great area for kids!!! A walking path with exercise equipment every 100 feet or so. Not sure how long it is as we had to cut it short due to darkness. If you have dogs be ware of stickers in the dry grass areas - ouch. The grass around the playground seemed good.

Really great place, a little windy in the afternoons and watch your dogs feet everywhere prickers, but the staff is great. A true gem! Wooded area near the recreation building is safe for your dogs feet but everywhere near the campsites are dangerous and filled with little stickers. Lack of signage makes it a little difficult to find a way around at first, but luckily the friendly neighbors informed me of everything I needed to know. Very grateful we were able to get a spot. We booked in six months in advance.

We LOVED this little campground! Of course, you must have a military ID to stay here but such a little hidden gem with the best playground we've encountered in a great while! Commissary, gas station, and small post exchange within walking distance! Definitely want to come back before we leave this summer!

We enjoyed our stay at the Volunteer Park Travel Campsite at Whitesands. The 8 FHU sites have direct views of the Organ Mountains and a covered picnic area, which provides some shade in the late afternoon. The sites are level and well maintained. There is a large park behind the sites with plenty of shade trees and a large playground. There is no laundry at the campground, but there is a small laundrette on base. The site was very quiet and peaceful. VPTC also allows for overflow parking in the street next to the playground. Although these spots don't have FHU, there are several spots with electric and shade trees. We stayed in the overflow the first 2 nights due to a mixup with our reservations. VPTC is conveniently located between Los Cruces and Alamogordo. There are many great hiking trails within an hour of the camp. The location also made it easy for day trips to many attractions in the area. The downside to VPTC is that they don't take reservations until a month in advance, and you don't get a confirmation of your reservation. In our case, they lost our reservation, and we had to stay in overflow the first 2 nights. A couple of the spots were empty those nights, which may be because you don't have to pay in advance. The staff were helpful and friendly in resolving our reservation mix-up.
