The Walter E. Stark Assembly Area and Horse Campground is located at 11871 Pillsbury Forest Rd SW, Pillager, MN 56473, USA. This address places it squarely within the Pillsbury State Forest, a significant natural area in central Minnesota, situated near the towns of Pillager, Motley, and Baxter.

Accessibility to the campground is generally straightforward, though it's important to note its location within a state forest. To reach the campground, you would typically travel east from U.S. Highway 10 at Motley on State Highway 210 for approximately 9.3 miles, or west from State Highway 371 in Baxter on State Highway 210 for about 10.2 miles. From State Highway 210, you would then turn north onto Pillsbury Forest Road and continue for approximately 3 miles until you reach the horse camp. The roads leading to the campground are generally suitable for vehicles towing horse trailers and RVs.

The surrounding Pillsbury State Forest encompasses over 25,600 acres of state, county, and private land, characterized by hilly, rocky terrain, numerous small lakes, and a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees. While the campground offers a secluded feel, its proximity to towns like Pillager and Baxter means that essential services, such as gas stations, limited grocery options, and perhaps some dining establishments, are within a reasonable driving distance. However, campers should plan to arrive well-stocked, as the immediate vicinity of the campground is wilderness-oriented. The drive times from major Minnesota cities like Minneapolis (approximately 2 hours 4 minutes) and St. Cloud (approximately 1 hour 11 minutes) make it a feasible destination for weekend trips or longer excursions for many local residents. The location within a state forest also means clear signage for trails and facilities, aiding in navigation once you're in the area.

Very fun forest, lots of ticks do bring bug spray and make sure your dogs are on medication for it. Had a blast camping here. Nice lakes all over, nearby towns are fun, secluded enough that you don't run into too many people unless you want to. Please pick up all your trash when you are finished camping. The spot we found must have been popular because there was quite a bit of trash we needed to clean up before setting up. I'm no tree hugger but pick up your cans and bottles

We got a great spot! Beautiful scenery. Unfortunately our neighbor next door who came later in the day was a grumpy old lady who thought we needed to go to bed at 9pm! Seriously!!! We weren't loud but we did stay up and enjoyed our camping experience. She had the audacity to pound on our camper the next morning thinks ng she was waking us up, we were already awake. Don't know who she thought appointed her the go to bed committee, but it just made her look bad and the people she was with. Karma will visit her!! I just wish your camp site was bigger, expand for pete's sake! Maybe make one side for these grumpy ole ladies who want to go to bed with the chickens😂 but seriously have one side for these folks and the other side for people who want to enjoy camping. Please you need to expand, it's way too small in there.
